Director of Music

Job description / Role

We are currently recruiting for GEMS Wellington Director of Music.

The group of GEMS Wellington schools in Dubai and Qatar is looking to appoint an inspiring and passionate individual to become the cluster's strategic lead for the provision of Music. The Director of Music position is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic leader with previous experience and responsibility for the leadership and management of at least one aspect of the Music curriculum and performance development.

The role will be hugely rewarding and will provide an excellent platform for career development and possible promotion to future leadership positions. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, hardworking and committed to the Cluster's vision and ethos. The responsibility allowance and timetable remission are commensurate with the professionalism and commitment required.

Key duties and responsibilities will include:
- In-line with the Wellington Vision, develop the strategic vision for the Music across the cluster of Wellington Schools and its partner schools
- Ensure the vision for the Music supports the aims, priorities and ethos of the schools in the cluster
- Manage a school's subject leaders' network to liaise directly with subject leaders and their line managers
- Contribute to GEMS Wellington Directors' meetings and reviews
- Alongside the schools' leadership, quality assure, achieve and maintain outstanding learning and teaching of the Music within specific phases and across the schools
- Alongside the schools' leadership, support the planning for the continuous training and development of staff and those delivering the Music curriculum across the schools
- Alongside the schools' leadership , support the review of curricula to ensure the best possible outcomes for students with seamless transitions between each phase of the schools
- Alongside the schools' leadership, support the cluster's Extra-Curricular programme for the relevant subject areas, providing high quality opportunities for learning during term-time and support the implementation of extra-curricular extended experiences such as holiday camps for the Music.

Requirements

- Manage cluster resources, including the costs of all cluster partnership work and cluster participation in external events. (The schools' leadership will directly manage internal subject budgets)
- Establish and grow a Wellington Orchestra of gifted and talented musicians and ensure their development.
- Collaborate and liaise with peripatetic music partners and teachers to ensure that a large number of Wellington students are learning a musical instrument through school
- Evaluate the impact of external partners in decision making for future school budgets
- Where appropriate, support the interview/selection process for teacher recruitment and ensure effective induction of new staff.
- Actively pursue your own professional development as a leader.
