Cast House Manager

Job description / Role

A leading semi-governmental organization from the industrial development background, based in Abu Dhabi is looking to recruit an experienced Cast House Manager to join their dynamic team of professionals. The ideal candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in managing twin roll casting operations. The ideal candidate must also have thorough knowledge of the aluminum flat product industry.

The Cast House Manager is responsible for assisting in the design, procurement, erection, and commissioning of the cast house in the aluminum foil mill. After commissioning, the Cast House Manager shall head the cast house operations and maintenance.

The responsibilities are as follows:
- Lead the technical aspects related to the cast aluminum coil production during design, procurement, erection, commissioning, in conjunction with consultants, contractors, and machine suppliers.
- Meet with the General Manager and Steering Committee as requested to update on progress in a professional manner and communicate effectively. Address any concerns which may arise and act in the best interests regarding the development of the cast house.
- Assist the General Manager and Procurement Manager in the tendering/bidding process for all cast house equipment/machinery suppliers.
- In coordination with the General Manager effectively resolve any potential problems such as delivery, labour, schedule and payment disputes regarding the facility.
- Assist the General Manager in collaborating with governmental entities, utility providers, licensing, and other stakeholders to ensure delivery of the project is in compliance with Abu Dhabi standards.
- Liaise with the liquid metal supplier to ensure a seamless interface and supply of metal, from a design and from an operations stand point.
- Ensure casting process follows state of the art industry standards and ensure delivery of the optimum product mix based on customer requirements.
- Ensure cast coils meet or exceed product specifications.
- Establishing quality standards, implementing stringent quality control systems to enhance quality of products and reduce rejection level through continuous up gradation of ISO and QMS. Utilize Management techniques and programs, such as ISO 9000, Total Quality Management (TQM) and emphasize continuous quality improvement.
- Deploying quality initiatives in the cast house and working towards zero defects.
- Establish group/ team and individual accountabilities (KPIs) throughout assigned department for problem solving and cost reduction, both on a permanent and ad-hoc basis, depending on need.
- Organize and oversee training needs and procedures for employees to ensure proper training and development of all employees in operation, safety and maintenance functions.

Requirements

- Four year technical or engineering degree (or equivalent advanced degree) related to manufacturing and/or heavy industries.
- Technical/Business post graduate degree is favorable as well.
- At least 5 years experience in managing twin roll casting operations with a production capacity not less than 20,000 tons per annum.
- Thorough knowledge of the aluminum flat product industry - a strong basis in aluminum foil products.
- Having supplied cast aluminum coils to further downstream aluminum processors within an integrated framework.
- Having supplied cast coils for the production of light gauge foils (6.3 - 9 micron)
- Having managed an aluminum casting team of approximately 80 people.
- Significant twin-roll casting with state of the art casters (FATA or Novelis PAE).
