Job description / Role
- Provides Obstetrics & Gynaecologic care according to assigned patients to current best-evidence based standards, using best judgement at all times and in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures.
- Treat diseases of female organs.
- The post holder is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical consultant level patient care in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
- This responsibility may be shared with other specialists/consultants in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the hospital.
- Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical histories, reports, and examination results.
- Care for and treat women during prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods.
- Prescribe or administer therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
- Perform caesarean sections or other surgical procedures as needed to preserve patients' health and deliver babies safely.
- Analyze records, reports, test results, or examination information to diagnose medical condition of patient.
- Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
- Liaises with: Patients, families, medical staff, nursing staff and other clinical staff.
- Monitor patients' conditions and progress and re evaluate treatments as necessary.
- Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary.
- Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff.
- Consult with or provide consulting services to other physicians.
- Plan, implement, or administer health programs in hospitals, businesses, or communities for prevention and treatment of injuries or illnesses.
- Prepare government and organizational reports on birth, death, and disease statistics, workforce evaluations, or the medical status of individuals.
- Conduct research to develop or test medications, treatments, or procedures to prevent or control disease or injury.
- Participates in review and planning activities relevant to Obstetrics & Gynaecology services and the hospital.
- Participates in activities and opportunities to promote the Obstetrics & Gynaecology services and the hospital to the general public and wider medical community of Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
- Fulfills professional requirements for continuing maintenance of competence in all aspects of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
- Carries out other assigned duties within the appropriate scope of knowledge, skills and abilities of the position.
Requirements
- Education - Primary Medical Degree recognised by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD).
- Completion of a recognised higher professional education programme.
- Certification of higher professional education recognised by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD): MRCOG/FRCOG plus CCT(GMC Specialist Registration) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, or FRCOG, or American Board Certification, or FRCS Canada, or FRACOG, or Equivalent specialist registration in Obstetrics & Gynaecology recognised by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD).
- Experience - Minimum of five years experience since gaining the higher qualification.
- Minimum of three years experience as a registered Consultant, Board Certified Specialist or HAAD recognised equivalent in the required specialty.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education.
- Training, experience and clinical competence in one of the following aspects of Obstetrics & Gynaecology General, Foetal Medicine, Pelvic Surgery and Laparoscopic procedures.
- Manual dexterity to perform the duties of the job.
