Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Our school is looking for a Principal to develop and lead the School with vision and motivation in order to raise standards and to provide the highest quality education for pupils in a safe environment.

Shaping the future
- Leading the development of ‘learning and teaching’ across the whole school
- Effectively implement the vision through agreed objectives and effective strategic and operational planning
- Motivate others to create a shared learning culture and positive environment

Leading Quality Teaching and Learning
- Ensure a consistent and school wide focus on pupils achievement
- Establish creative, responsive and effective approaches to learning and teaching in every subject
- Develop and implement strategies which secure high standards of behaviour and attendance
- Take a strategic role in the development of the school’s 21st century skill development
- Strategically plan the development of IGCSE and AS level option choices, in line with the holistic needs of the pupils and the wider community of the UAE

Quality of assessment for learning
- Develop effective policies and procedures in line with school values and ethos, whilst meeting ADEC requirements
- Oversee teachers so that they are able to provide accurate and timely assessment of pupils’ progress that facilitates more effective teacher planning which in turn further accelerates progress.
- Develop tracking systems in Secondary and introduce early intervention strategies to ensure examination results are of a high standard in IGSCE, AS level and MOE Grade 12 Arabic and Islamic Studies;

Developing Self and Others
- Lead collaboratively, build teams and work cooperatively within and outside the school. Actively engage with other schools to build effective learning communities.
- Develop effective strategies and procedures for staff induction, professional development and performance review.

Managing the Organisation
- Lead the school’s strategic development plan and collaborate with the Assistant Principal’s in the development of policies and procedures
- Ensure budgets are in line with school resource requirements to invest in the long term future growth of Al Shohub School
- Ensure the school is fully staffed with well qualified, capable and creative staff who embrace the ethos and values of Al Shohub School

Securing Accountability
- Be responsible for the coaching and mentoring of staff placed on capability measures and maintain accurate records of proceedings
- Work in accordance with all school procedures and policies

Strengthening Community
- Raise the profile of Al Shohub School within the local community through the organisation of, and attendance at; networking events, open evenings, marketing activities, visits, consultations and progress reviews to improve recruitment and retention of pupils
- Establish and maintain an effective and efficient communications network with governors, parents, pupils and staff

Requirements

The Governing Body of Al Shohub School is seeking to recruit a dynamic and inspirational Headmistress who can lead the school successfully from good to outstanding.

Al Shohub School is located in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. It is a well-established British school, catering at present for a mainly local clientele. Within cultural parameters, we deliver the National Curriculum of England & Wales to pupils aged from three to eighteen years (girls only Year 5+).

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and ambitious individual to progress and to have a real impact on the outcomes and success of pupils. Our ideal candidate will be a female who is highly-qualified, skilled and inspirational leader who shares our commitment to developing the potential of every child. She will be highly motivated, have great interpersonal skills and the drive and personality to play a key role in moving the school from good to outstanding.

The successful candidate will bring to the school a strong track record of success, a thorough understanding of best educational practice and a ‘whole-school’ approach to working. She will have a Masters degree, EdD or PhD in Education, at least 8 years’ experience of teaching at secondary school level, in addition to recent management experience as either a Head or Deputy, in a UK school or a reputable British international school. Experience of teaching in an international setting would be beneficial. The applicant must also have a sound understanding of the National Curriculum of England & Wales at all levels and a commitment to playing a key role in a multi-cultural school community, which prioritises sensitivity to and respect for the local culture and environment.

The successful applicant will lead the school to secure a well-rounded education for all pupils, ensuring sustained improvement in standards of learning and achievement, as well as promoting the mission and vision of the school.

Al Shohub School was founded in 1999, by Her Highness Sheikha Shaikha bint Saif Al Nahyan, in order to ensure the availability of outstanding girls’ education in Abu Dhabi.
