Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Reporting to Department Head, the Phlebotomist performs the collection of blood specimen for laboratory analysis use to diagnose and monitor medical conditions.

- Collect appropriate amount of blood by vein puncture or dermal puncture for the specified test.
- Select appropriate collection system for specified tests.
- Perform correct labelling of all specimens.
- Responsible for transporting specimens back to the laboratory in a timely manner.
- Effectively and professionally interact with patients, visitors, peers and other health care professionals.
- Perform the processing and handling of specimens for the appropriate laboratory departments.
- Observe and follow all safety regulations.
- Perform and maintain quality assurance procedures.
- Apply and relate laboratory terminologies and abbreviations to the major areas of the clinical laboratory.
- Continuously learn the current trends in health care
- Educates and trains staff members on phlebotomy techniques.
- Report to Head of Department the operational and disciplinary matters if needed.
- Assist the department head in planning and developing policies and strategies within the department.
- Perform other related duties.
- Monitoring patients during the phlebotomy procedure, and identifies and reports any clinical concerns.
- Maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Documenting all intervention in appropriate format
- Comply and support clinical audit processes within the service and report on these as agreed.
- Communicate professionally with patients, family member and other medical personnel to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, and clarify orders and status.
- Be actively involved in the quality improvement activities within the Department
- Adhere to Infection Control and Health and Safety measures
- Ensure disease prevention and health promotion for patients, families/community.

Requirements

- HAAD/ DHA license as Lab Technician /Phlebotomist or HAAD Passer Phlebotomist
- Minimum six (6) months program in Medical Laboratory Sciences / Certificate in the field of Health Science of minimum of one (1) year
- Minimum of one (1) year practical experience as a phlebotomist
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a tactful manner when working with people.
- Good command of written and spoken English language; knowledge in Arabic is preferred.
- Organized and able to work methodically.
- Presentable and professional attitude as well as a confident and enthusiastic personality.
- Able to effectively work under pressure.
- Critical thinking skills
- Able to relate to people from different cultural backgrounds
