Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The General Manager, Commercial & Marketing Affairs reports to the Chief Executive Officer of the Company and is responsible for the overall efficient management of the Commercial Sector, which comprises of the Iron Ore Supplies and Pellet Sales. He is responsible for planning, organizing, establishing, monitoring, controlling and evaluating all the activities of the two departments.

DETAILED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


The function broadly involves the following key responsibilities:

Marketing & Sales
- Helps develop the annual Pellet Sales Budget and upon approval l, implements the same through appropriate marketing strategies, which are drawn up in the annual Marketing Plan and Action Plan.
- Monitors the implementation of the Marketing Plan, working closely with General Manager - Operations Affairs.
- Keeps himself f updated on the global environment of the Iron & Steel Industry with special reference to Iron Ore Pellet markets and responds to market place opportunities in recommending marketing and business development initiatives on an ongoing basis.
- Contributes in the preparation of all tenders tor new business through his expertise and through proper coordination with other departments in finalizing price, technical and commercial term s and conditions.
- Contributes in maintaining a good cash flow in order to the company internal and external obligations and growth, working very closely with CFO.
- Ensures proper execution of sales contracts through communication of all customer requirements and shipment schedules, internally in the department and to the Technical l Sector, Process & Quality Control and Finance Departments.
- Develops and implements customer satisfaction program and ensures appropriate corrective & preventive action in case of any customer complaints in keeping with the requirements of the Company's Integrated Management System (ISO 9001:2000 & 1400I:1996).
- Develop a pricing mechanism plan in order to maintain and meet the expected profit as per the business plan, working very closely with General Manager Operations Affairs & Chief Financial Officer.
- Contributes in the company growth plan and strategic all business developments, working very closely with CFO & CEO.

Raw Materials & Shipping
- Helps develop the annual procurement plan of all raw materials required by the plant, like various grades of iron ores, bentonite, petroleum coke, limestone, etc based on the Annual Sales Budget and Annual Marketing Plan taking into consideration individual customer requirements, plant capacity & availability, shipping requirements, etc.
- Helps develop shipment schedule les based on annual imports of raw material sand exports of Iron Ore Pellets.
- Monitors the implementation of the above plans, working closely with the General Manager Operations Affairs.
- Keeps himself updated on the global environment of the Iron Ore markets and Marine Shipping industry and responds positively by initiating any action plan to the company's benefit, on an ongoing basis.
- Ensures procurement of all raw materials as per approved plan and schedules by entering into annual periodical purchase agreements with approved suppliers as per company policies and procedures.
- Ensures proper execution of purchase agreements after ascertaining correct specifications, quantities and delivery requirements fi•om the Process & Quality Control Department and the Technical Sector.
- Ensures that all financial arrangements in terms with purchase agreements and executed in coordination with the Finance Department.
- Ensures that Contract of Affreightmen/Charter Party Agreements are drawn up with approved Ship Owners/Brokers, as per company policies and procedures , to facilitate shipment of raw materials and iron ore pellets, as required and in keeping with agreed delivery schedules.
- Coordinates with the Technical Sector, Ship Owner/Broker and Supplier/Customer, to ensure that demurrage payments are kept to the minimum, through proper jetty utilization plans and optimum ship loading/unloading schedules.
- Ensures registration of suppliers, ship owners and brokers is done as per approved procedures and performance of existing vendors is monitored on a regular basis.

General
- Defines objectives, formulates the policies and procedures of the Commercial Sector to ensure that the Company Commercial goals/policies are achieved.
- Operates within the approved limits of authorities & administrative powers delegated to him by the company.
- Suggests to the Chief Executive Officer any corrective actions required in case of deviations from approved budgeted plans based on monthly reports.
- Manages and supervises all the staff working in the Commercial Sector so as to ensure proper teamwork and optimum output.
- Communicates as required internally as well as with customers and suppliers on all aspects of marketing, logistics and commercial activities.
- Maintains close rapport and good working relationship with all company customers and iron ore suppliers.
- Ensures that proper database is maintained and updated in the department on sales figures, ore supplier, customer & ship owner I broker history, customer complaints, supplier & ship owner I broker performance, market reviews, current market conditions, future market trends, competitor intelligence, etc.
- Should be aware of the general requirements of quality and environment management systems as per ISO 9001:2000 & 1400I:1996 respectively and comply with the same.

Requirements

- Bachelor of Science, Mining, Metallurgy, or Engineering Degree preferably with a post graduate degree in Marketing and with training at a senior level in business & contract management, negotiation, decision making, leadership & team building, time management, communication & presentation skills.
- Qualifications may be relaxed with the permission of the Management depending on the candidate's previous work experience in similar job
- Minimum of 15 years experience in the marketing/sales/commercial department, preferably in the Iron & Steel or Iron Ore Pellet Industry, of which 5 years should be at a senior management level.
- Should have a comprehensive knowledge of the Iron Ore & Pellet Industries, its major mines, consumers & their demands and global markets.
