Job description / Role
Our client is currently seeking a Marine Scientist to be based in Bahrain and support their business with field programs and investigations. The environment team in our client's Bahrain office undertakes marine projects located in the coastal zone, inshore and offshore throughout the Kingdom. These projects are often related to land reclamation and dredging activities and the development of the coastal zone, including topside construction activities (e.g. industrial, residential and mixed-use developments).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Planning, coordinating and undertaking of marine environmental surveys including remote drop-down video surveys, water and sediment sample collection, infaunal sampling and processing and SCUBA diver-based surveys (transects/quadrat methods incorporating photography and videography, sediment coring etc.)
- Undertaking EIAs and preparing EMPs, particularly for coastal and marine-based projects.
- Design and implementation of environmental monitoring programmes, particularly for water quality and marine ecological interests.
- Project management and client/stakeholder liaison - the management of multidisciplinary projects will be required and will involve frequent consultation with clients, contractors, subcontractors and stakeholders, including national regulatory bodies.
Requirements
* Bachelors Degree (Hons.) in Biological or Environmental Science
* Masters in a marine scientific discipline preferred
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a marine science-based consultancy role or similar (e.g. regulatory body, research institution)
* PADI Rescue Diver certification or above. Equivalent or more advanced certification obtained through another suitably accredited organization (e.g. BSAC, HSE (UK), CMAS etc.) is acceptable.
