Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The H&S Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety guidelines. Provides advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations. Takes effective action to manage any violations that arise.

The role will be largely focused on prevention, so you need to be conscientious, pro-active and forward thinking in your daily approach to tasks and issues, whilst ready to act and respond in emergency situations. You will also be detail-oriented.

Your goal is to establish a safe workplace, according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.

Responsibilities:
* Support the development of College policies and programs.
* Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
* Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures.
* Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation.
* Organize Safety training of employees and executives.
* Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment).
* Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
* Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
* Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and help prevent re-occurrence.
* Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
* Conduct 1 x Safety Tour per day
* Investigate all Safety Concerns that have been highlighted or brought to your attention ASAP.
* Send weekly report (e-mail).
* Monthly Report to be sent to Corporate.
* Fire Safety Checks to be carried out on a monthly basis, records have to be kept (Extinguishers and alarms).
* Investigate any accidents or near misses immediately.
* Carry out all worksite visits.

Any other duties required by management to ensure health and safety adherence.

Requirements

* In depth knowledge of legislation and company procedures
* Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
* Experience in writing reports for health and safety
* Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
* Working knowledge of safety management information systems
* Outstanding organizational skills
* Diligent with great attention to detail
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics, preferably in both English and Arabic.
* IOSH Certificate in Managing Safely is mandatory.
* 3 years previous experience in a health & safety role is essential.

Desirable:
* NEBOSH IGC Desirable
