The Assistant Director of Health Information Management assists in achieving the goals and objectives established for the health information management department by promoting and coordinating medical records functions and maintaining the established policies and procedures within the mission and objectives of the organization.

The incumbent also is responsible to support and facilitate the quality improvement efforts within the department and adhere to and support the compliance to the relevant accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:
- Assists in setting long and short-term goals for the department and plans for expansion of services as the need dictates as planned within HMC operational goals, mission, vision, and values .
- Oversees the smooth operations/functions of the coding, transcription, and filing sections .
- Assists in budget preparation and adheres to man hours and expenses targets .
- Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Health Information Management in his/her absence .
- Provides orientation to new staff, implements, and trains them on technical updates in medial records/health information management .
- Develops an organized mechanism for late or missing discharges for the monthly case abstract completion and balancing to justify and accurate statistical count .
- Administers personnel policies in accordance within hospital and corporation regulations .
- Conducts appraisals; determines the quantity and quality of employee production as the benchmark requires .
- Handles personnel affairs, such as vacation schedules, sick leaves utilization, and time sheets. Interviews and hires qualified employees .
- Attends hospital meetings, conferences, and workshops on work-related issues in order to sustain HMCs vision, mission, and values to help achieve and further sustain JCI accreditation .
- Performs other duties as required

Requirements

- Minimum Education:Bachelor's Degree in Medical Records, Health Information Management, Medical Records Technology and/or Allied Health Sciences, or the equivalent.
- Preferred: Master's Degree in Medical Records, Health Information Management, Medical Records Technology and/or Allied Health Sciences, or the equivalent.
- Minimum Experience: 3+ years in medical records, with 2 years coding experience. Qatari nationals are eligible upon graduation regardless of experience
- Preferred Experience: 5+ years in medical records, with 2 years coding experience Qatari nationals are eligible upon graduation regardless of experience
- Computer Skills: Strong MS Office skills including MS_Word and MS_Excel are required. Clinical documentation systems experience is a plus.
- Required Certification/ Licensure/ Registration: Professional Certification is preferred (from the home country's medical records association/organization).
- Language Skills: English- essential; Arabic- preferred

- Able to manage, plan, and carry out day-to-day work under very general supervision; able to manage conflicting demands and plan appropriately.
- Able to handle a variety of inquiries and complex situations by collaborating with peers.
- Able to arrive at a decision to solve a problem, ensuring the right approach has been taken and the appropriate methods have been used to solve the problem
