Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

- The Lactation Specialist is responsible for the overall coordination, planning and management of education related to breast feeding and newborn hearing screening for patients, patient families and staff of Mediclinic Welcare Hospital.
- Responsible for the continued assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for all patients in the assigned unit
- Highly specialized skills and abilities regarding; assessment, intervention based on patient history and assessment, initiation and modification of complex situations and related therapies and interventions
- Ability to provide information and consideration of mental, emotional, cultural, social and physical factors
- Knowledge of, and experience with, educational strategies to provide individual, family and group counseling, and guidance and health promotion instructions, to assist patients and family members to participate in their health care plan and maintain good health habits and preventative activities
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals and the effects on lactation for ante-partum, intra-partum and postpartum patients and newborns to toddlers
- Ability to document findings and make recommendations/referrals if necessary
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement for better health outcomes

Requirements

- Graduate of Bachelor of Science or Diploma in Nursing OR Midwifery from an accredited institute
- Must have at least three years exposure as a Lactation Nurse
- Current license as a Registered Nurse or Midwife in home country and in current country of practice
- International Board Certification as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
- Can function effectively under pressure in a fast paced and multicultural setting
- Fluency in written and spoken English (Arabic language skills are well regarded)
- High level of verbal and written communication skills
- High level of interpersonal and organizational skills
- Demonstrated competence in working autonomously as required
- Computer literacy at an intermediate level
- Demonstrated professional knowledge of the breastfeeding process, ante-partum, intra-partum and postpartum healthcare and psychosocial issues
- Knowledge of the breast feeding care and educational principles, practices, procedures and techniques required to assess learning needs, develop an educational plan, and teach/counsel staff, patients and family members and evaluate the effectiveness of the instruction
