Employment: Full Time

Role purpose:

Energy cost in Vodafone globally is approx. €1bn [20 bn EGP] per year and expected to increase due to 1) higher consumption driven by new services and bandwidth and 2) volatile and rising energy prices. Energy consumption also contributes to 95% of our greenhouse gas emissions. Vodafone has therefore defined energy innovation as a transformation objective and set public targets to achieve 100% renewable electricity supply by 2025 and Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

The Energy Performance team in Group Technology leads the related strategy and programme across our 20 markets globally. A key component of this strategy is to manage and analyse our energy data effectively and efficiently by using big data analytics and machine learning in addition to conventional tools.

The purpose of the Data Scientist role is provide analytical expertise to the Group Energy Performance Team which helps to drive energy efficiency across the organisation. This includes analysing the impact of energy saving software features activation strategy across the network and modelling future scenarios for additional savings. In addition, the role will involve ad hoc analysis based on the key drivers of energy consumption such as 5G roll out, efficiency of equipment and hardware configuration, feasibility of renewable installation etc.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership
- Meetings with team members regarding projects for collecting and interpreting data, in order to automate
- Supporting the Senior Data Scientists to roll out existing data science use cases to new markets
- Communicating and meetings with engineers, IT teams and other interested parties to share the outputs your work complex ideas verbally and visually in an understandable manner with non-technical stakeholders.

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
- A BSc or MSc Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field.
- 3+ years industry/software experience.
- Extensive experience with analytical, statistical and machine learning models.
- Proven experience in translating business problems and requirements into data science or analytical projects..
- Telecom and Energy knowledge is a plus.

Requirements

Must have technical / professional qualifications:
- Expert level in programming and scripting knowledge (SQL, Python, Spark and Object-Oriented Programming)
- Proficient in building machine learning models, and knowing when and how to apply them in both scikit-learn and MLlib.
- Excellent understanding of statistics, multi-variable calculus and linear algebra.
- Intermediate level in story telling and data visualization.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
