Job description / Role
To manage the resources placed in their control to produce crops of the requisite quality and quantity by the implementation of the highest standards of crop husbandry and the adherence to good management principles and practises.
Develop his management team by training, mentoring and coaching to ensure that a suitable level of skills is available at all times to manage the sites.
Monitor costs and ensure internal controls are in place to comply with the requirements stipulated by the Company Finance Department
Prepare a replacement and project capital expenditure plan to maintain and develop the operating efficiencies of the Farm
Ensure that Company Health & Safety guidelines are complied with on all sites to result in a safe working environment for all staff.
Activities
1. To prepare and implement an annual cropping plan.
2. Ensure that all planting, irrigation, fertilizing, weed and pest control and harvesting are carried out in a timely fashion and in accordance with the required standards.
3. Monitor the performance of the farm in achieving the financial and physical budget and to take corrective action in situations where there are deviations.
4. Monitor and assess the performance of all Farm staff.
5. To devise in conjunction with the Workshop Foreman an annual machinery and equipment replacement policy
6. To prepare capital expenditure proposals for the purchase of new machinery and equipment for the farms.
7. To coordinate the visits of Farm Consultants as required
8. To coordinate and facilitate the disposal / sale of farm crops to external customers or for use by other Company Departments.
Requirements
- Degree / Diploma or Certificate in Agriculture and Managerial experience in similar role
- Must have good man management
- Must be a good communicator
- Basic knowledge of financial accounts
