About the Business

Description and Desired Qualifications

Job Purpose:
Halcrow has been commissioned to provide Construction Management, Construction Supervision and Contract Administration services for a residential development in Muscat, Oman.The project is phase 1 of a 6 year plan to upgrade staff accommodation. Phase 1 consists of 241 residential units comprising apartments and villas, a mosque, playing field, changing rooms, associated infrastructure and landscaping. The total built up area is in the region of 70,000sqm.The development will be of a high quality and construction will be cognisant of the exposed location and long term commitment that the PDO has to the maintenance of the built elements. Some demolition of existing villas will be necessary in order to provide a platform for the new build.

Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The principal function of this position is to supervise of contractor and control of quality on a daily basis, advise the Senior Architect of all observed non-conformances
Responsible (along with all members of the site team) for monitoring HSE and reporting HSE violations while on site
Monitor and report on the contractor's activities on site with the respect to quality and methodology compliance, maintaining photo and written diaries to record daily works
Act as assistant to the PCM in reporting back to client and providing updates and progress reports including assistance in the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly progress reports
Assist in the review of contractor's material, shop drawing, method statement and As-Built documents submissions
Attend inspections to ensure that works are constructed in accordance with the contract documentation and method statements
Undertake full snagging surveys of internal and external finishes, ensure the contractor fully understands his obligations and follows through with appropriate remedial action
Actively liaise with the contractor on all construction related matters
Feedback all contentious issues to the Resident Engineer.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Key requirements

Relevant site supervision experience in the Middle East (mixed use and/or housing)
Ability to understand technical specifications and drawings and inspect for compliance
Communicate with the contractor's staff clearly in spoken and written English
Ability to maintain positive relations with contractor under high pressure conditions
Proactive approach to motivating the contractor to maintain high standards and timely delivery
Able to work independently and deal with clients and contractors
Fluent in verbal and written English
Understanding of International Standards
