Architectural Specification Writer

Job description / Role

As we are experiencing growth in our Company, we are proactively seeking applications for the role of a specification writer to be based in Dubai.

The Specification Writer will be responsible for ensuring quality technical reviews are performed on specification contents and their associated drawings.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who can demonstrate experience in the following:

- E-SPECS and/or MasterSpec experience is beneficial
- Performing technical reviews on the content of the specifications and the specifications versus the drawings at a senior level.
- Understanding the construction industry and possessing intimate knowledge of the latest industry materials and their uses.
- Ability to view projects in their entirety and converse with contractors, consultants and regulatory authorities at all levels.
- Possessing strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Providing guidance on specifications where required by colleagues.

Requirements

- B.Arch Degree in Architecture is preferred.
- Membership of a professional Architectural Association such as RIBA and AIA is preferred.
- Previous experience gained within a Consultancy environment would be beneficial.
- Prior experience in the Gulf Region would be advantageous.
- 8-10 years experience required.
- Review of drawings to ensure drawing-specification coordination, appropriate use of architectural/engineering terminologies, and proper specification of material in terms of project category and expected.
- Meeting with product manufacturers, fabricators, and specialists to discuss material details including common application of material, technical properties, application/installation details, compliance with codes/standards, place of manufacture; and updating information on developed materials as well as the latest innovations on existing ones.
- Maintaining database of manufacturers' information including contact details, local representative (if any), and list of products they manufacture/supply.
- Knowledge of LEED, Green and Estidama requirements.

* The successful candidate will have previous experience as a specification writer and possess a thorough understanding of MasterSpec specifications. Experience in writing specifications for the architectural profession and the construction industry is required.
