Employment: Full Time

Job Purpose:

The Assistant Associate Veterinarian is primarily a training position where a young vet is assigned to different parts of the team to develop his or her professional skills with the objective of joining the ranks of Associate Veterinarian. The position works alongside senior staff providing routine and urgent medical and surgical care, develops preventive medicine and husbandry programs, assures animals are shipped safely, provides veterinary services oversight for conservation programs.

Key Tasks and Duties:

•Supervise assigned staff to the level determined by Senior Management.

•Develop and mentor progress of UAE National staff.

•Provides medical and surgical care at a location under guidance of Associate Veterinarian.

•Participates in restraining or immobilization procedures necessary to bring animals under control for examination.

•Conducts physical examinations; collects samples for analysis and testing.

•Administers preventive medicine and husbandry programs such as vaccinations, worming, nutrition, foot care, and dental care under the guidance of senior veterinarian.

•Prepares and maintains medical records.

•Prepare and maintain pharmacy inventory.

•Conducts and participates in animal inspection rounds with staff.

•Assists in the immobilization and preparation of animals for shipment, including pre-shipment examinations and documentation.

•Assistance in the organization and execution of hospital and clinic maintenance.

•Assistance in all fields of zoo and wildlife veterinary work.

•Administration and management of stock lists.

•Undertakes related tasks as directed by senior management .

•Ensure that all AWPR EHS policies are followed.

Requirements

•Minimum: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent from an accredited university/college.

•At least 1-2 years working experience with exotic animals or a world class zoological institute/wild animal collection.

•An understanding of the purpose of Al Ain Wildlife Park, its mission and the outline function of each department within the organisation.

•Excellent experience caring for exotic animals; knowledge of regulations affecting zoological institutions.

•Excellent experience in animal surgical skills.

•Ability to prepare materials for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

•Good MS office skills.

•Excellent administrative skills.

•Good person to person skills.

•Excellent communication skills.

•Good presentation skills.

•Excellent supervisory/management skills.
