Our Highways team is involved in some of the UKs most high profile, complex and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding. We have an enviable reputation in the delivery of some of the UKs and indeed the worlds most prestigious and challenging projects. Our current client portfolio includes the Department of Transport, Transport for Scotland, the Highways Agency, Transport for London, Borough Councils, Civil Engineering Contractors and International Governments, for whom we undertake the planning, design and supervision of bridge / structures projects with a view to exceeding our clients requirements.

Owing to recent contract awards, we are now looking to recruit a high calibre Assistant Bridge Engineer to work in our UK-based highways design teams in Glasgow on a wide portfolio of schemes throughout the UK and overseas to ensure we meet the demanding workload.

Reporting to the Team Leader within the Bridge Design Team, you will provide technical support into assigned projects under professional supervision for the successful delivery of technically challenging structural designs. As we operate in such a diverse marketplace, we can safely say that you will gain an experience of working on a wide and varied portfolio of projects which will enhance your skills and test your design and technical knowledge.

You will work in collaboration with other design disciplines and acquire the knowledge and practical skills through on-the-job learning to attain Chartered Engineer status and develop industry knowledge though affiliations and continuing education.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Performing required activities associated with projects (investigation, analysis and design) in line with project requirements
- Undertaking analysis and design of bridges and civil structures
- Preparing technical reports such as AIPs
- Maintaining on-going communication with relevant Project Leaders/Team Leaders and clients
- Contributing to the resolution of technical issues on projects and providing technical guidance to other team members
- Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design
- Reviewing completed engineering work to ensure accuracy
- Gaining awareness of and familiarity with, the commercial aspects of projects to develop commercial skills
- Acquire knowledge and practical skills to gain Chartership or equivalent
- Developing innovative and entrepreneurial thinking and behaviour
- Building a profile in the industry and keeping up-to-date with innovations and developments
- Being familiar with, and compliant with, relevant H & S regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team

Requirements

We are seeking to attract a career minded and technically advanced Assistant Bridge Engineer to join our existing high calibre team. To be considered for a role we are seeking candidates with the following credentials:

Minimum Academic Qualifications:
- 1st Class Civil Engineering Degree

Essential Experience:
- Demonstrable experience working on bridge and civil structural designs within the UK, ideally for an engineering consultancy
- Significant Experience in the analysis and design of bridges and civil structures
- Strong working knowledge of bridge design codes used in the UK
- Excellent written English with experience of writing reports for clients
- Experience of producing 3d models for analysis
- Ability to work as part of a team, with excellent communication skills
- Planning and organisation skills
- Ability to think laterally and to work to deadlines
- Progressing towards Chartered status under an approved training agreement with the ICE or IStructE
