Assistant Manager - Database Administration

Job description / Role

Responsible for the performance, integrity and security of Banks database. Develops, implements, and oversees database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

Reporting Relationships:
- Database Administrator
- Senior Database Administrator
- Senior Supervisor Database Administration

Duties & Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise the work of database administrators
- Responsible for day-to-day Database activities which involve performance monitoring, integrity checking, handling changes and incident handling
- Manages database administration activities which include planning, structural definition, documentation, code review, long-range requirements and operations guidelines
- Manages production support activities for various business applications including ERP suite, as well as the ongoing health monitoring, maintenance and upgrade of those system.
- Responsible for the security and integrity of all company data
- Plan and supervise all data definition analysis, the design of data bases, organization techniques, performance measurement, security and DB auditing
- Provide consultancy services to programmers/system engineers and assists in identifying training requirements.
- Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area of operations, processes, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers.
- Understanding of best practices concepts, change management, SLAs, policies, procedures, and design review driven standards.
- Interact with different business units/groups efficiently
- Provide up-to-the-minute status reports concerning production
- Perform a variety of tasks within the general scope of the job and others that may be assigned by the management.
- Ensure backup is taken on a regularly and it is tested on a periodic basis
- Support application developers & end users
- Carry out support activities on a 24x7 basis
- Plan and supervise all database testing and prototyping
- Assist system administrators & application developers in troubleshooting system problems
- Ensure adherence to Banks defined policies/procedures

Requirements

- Diploma or Bachelor degree in computer science with a minimum 6-8 years of experience in Database Management Systems (DBMS) administration planning, design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management
- Extensive experience as a database administrator in managing Sybase, Oracle and MSSQL Server
- Excellent knowledge in Oracle ERP in the areas like setup, configuration, troubleshooting and administration
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with Oracle development tools such as SQL Developer, including Oracle Forms, SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures and triggers.
- Good experience in database replication technology like Sybase Replication Server & Oracle data replication
- Good exposure to Database monitoring tools like Embarcadero
- Strong knowledge in UNIX/LINUX/Windows platforms
- Experience managing 24x7 production support
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Skills:
* Develop application using C++ and Power Builder.
* Develop shell and pearl scripts
* Certification in Sybase/Oracle/MSSQL Database Administration
* Excellent oral & written communication skills
