Assistant Project Director

For a major Road project in Ibra (Sultanate of Oman)
Responsible for the effective management of planning, site procurement, technical, financial and commercial aspects of the project. To effectively communicate direction to Section Heads and provide appropriate support such that agreed business objectives will be realised
Technical and design approvals, programme, laboratory, site procurement, costing, claims, admin, IT, HR, site store, accounts.
Provide consistent leadership and support to Section Heads
Empowering key Senior Staff whilst retaining responsibility.
Undertake performance review of key subcontractors
Ensure company policies and objectives are communicated effectively and promote continuous improvement.
Liaise with RE on all project issues.
Set and agree objectives for key staff aligned to job appraisals
Produce reports reflecting current status to assist PD with programme, approvals, costing
Ensure commercial objectives are met.
Work closely with commercial team and project management to ensure budgeted margin levels are being realised.
Responsibility for all key subcontracted packages with particular emphasis on programme/quality and Health and Safety.
Agree target budgets with Contract Management and PD.
Cost reporting for contract and productive units.
Maintain and update programme, report delays and recommend actions and maintain and monitor KPIs.
Undertake short to medium term forecasts for labour, plant and materials and advise PD of any shortfall/surplus.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Agree HSE safety targets for key statistics with HSE Manager.
Assist HSE Manager in the integration of policy.
Agree and monitor QA/QC targets
Assist QA/QC Manager in the integration of the policy
Weekly KPI Summary Report
Monthly Site Progress Report for PD
Monthly labour/Plant forecast
Weekly Progress Meetings with Contract Management
Monthly BoM meeting
Attendance at key meetings with Client/ Consultant/ Subcontractor/ Suppliers when necessary or requested
Weekly Safety Management Meeting
Weekly QA/QC meeting
Degree in Civil Engineering, 18+ years experience in civil construction industry, out of which 5 years in Project Manager or Assistant Project Director role. Proven track record of delivery on projects with major clients. Should possess behavioral skills like Goal orientation, advanced negotiation, interpersonal, communication, leadership, problem solving, strategic thinking and technical skill like commercial competency, resource planning and management, safety management, risk management, project governance competency.
