Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

We require an experienced, competent professionally qualified engineer with a minimum of seven to ten years relevant experience in building services engineering and building / property consultancy with a proven track record of exercising sound technical and financial management over the complete range of engineering services and allied activities within a widely varying property portfolio. Work experience must demonstrate a significant practical knowledge of the due diligence process relating to engineering services and general estates issues, preferably gained from commissions involving both individual buildings and complete estate portfolios.

A comprehensive understanding of mechanical and electrical services and associated costs is essential however a bias toward one discipline is expected. This position is likely to suit a competent design engineer wishing to develop their career in the challenging areas of asset management within the property industry. An appreciation of vertical transportation systems is essential. A thorough understanding of and the ability to develop and implement a range of facilities management services and, or strategies for both hard and soft services is essential. The ability to understand, develop, implement manage and audit FM / maintenance systems, contracts and strategies is fundamental to the role.

Associates will typically take responsibility for management of people, client and commercial issues as required by the Project Leader role. In this capacity you will represent Buro Happold internally and externally on behalf of your Group.

Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of a Group Director:

Ensuring deliverables for his/her respective projects are of a high standard in terms of technical detail, written English and presentation format.
Representing Buro Happold at meetings with the client, other professionals and contractors,
Developing strategic technically based reports and plans; implementing and monitoring recommended procedures.
Preparation of condition surveys, forward maintenance plans, dilapidation schedules, defect analyses, system diagnostics, schedules of condition together with the monitoring of the subsequent works processes.
Demonstrate technical and financial competence in terms of building engineering services and the activities of FM suppliers to ensure that a quality service is provided which represents good value for money.
Provide energy audits and studies based upon conventional and alternative energy sources.
Demonstrate awareness of sustainable construction, operations and maintenance.
Preparation of Employers Requirements and Developers Specifications for engineering services and allied systems and the monitoring of project works.
Organise and control project teams. Organising resources and ensuring that services and projects are carried out to an agreed programme and within budget.
Ensuring that appropriate service/design decisions are made and that other staff in his/her discipline are working effectively towards the end product.
Producing a resource plan for the work to be undertaken in his/her discipline.
Ensuring that senior staff are kept informed of important and relevant, service/design decisions and that the ultimate objectives of the client are achieved.
Coordinating his/her work with other members of the professional team.
Ensuring that all relevant company staff are informed of client matters.
Disseminating project information to all relevant parties.
Contribute to BH-wide initiatives with respect to technical development / market sectors and processes.
Commitment to CPD and self learning including development of own preferred area of expertise.
The post holder must at all times carry out his/ her duties with due regard to the Buro Happold Diversity Policy.

The objectives of the position, which will be reviewed and updated regularly, are to:
Carry out duties as required in the field of Asset Management Consultancy in order to fulfill current obligations to clients.
Develop additional business streams in line with the strategic intent of the Asset Management Group in Riyadh during a period of not less than six months (or longer as is necessary) to achieve a strong, recognised and profitable business unit.
Assist with the recruitment of additional Asset Management resources in order that the Asset Management strategy can be developed further within the Middle East with the longer term aim of securing sufficient Middle East business to enable Dubai to be the candidates domestic base.

Requirements

An Associate must be able to demonstrate a good standard of capability across most, and a developing standard of capability across the remaining Buro Happold Core Competencies. The candidate shall be able to demonstrate competencies in the following typical activities:
Client communication and liaison.
Construction monitoring c80m.
Property Operation and Management Services.
Facilities Management (Hard and Soft Services).
MEP & VT Design Reviews.
Operations and Maintenance.
Fit-Out works Design and Management.
Preparation of Employers Requirements.
Commissioning Management / Authority.
Property Acquisition Process.
Project Management.

Qualifications:
Chartered Engineer.
Typically ten years experience or equivalent.
Relevant first and typically further degree qualification or equivalent.
