Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Due to the UAE governments pledge to improve fire safety standards across the nation, WSPs Fire & Life Safety team is experiencing strong growth and are looking to add some experts to their team. As an Associate Director - Fire & Life Safety you will be accountable for the operational performance, technical and people leadership of their team and discipline projects across WSP in the Middle East (ME). The role holder will also be responsible for the Project Manager (PM) role for selected multi or single disciplinary projects.

You will be fully conversant in the use of NFPA, IBC, British Standard & Performance Based Design Codes and be able to adapt and utilise other applicable design legislation dependent upon the region in which the project is located.

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for;
- Leading the development of and, where necessary, produce prescriptive & performance based Fire & Life Safety Design reports throughout the project lifecycle;
- Leading the development and production of fire & life safety strategy drawings in accordance with regional requirements.
- Conducting and evaluate the results of fire, smoke and egress modelling
- Undertaking detailed fire & life safety compliance reviews.
- Developing performance based design solutions including necessary assessments and calculations.
- Defining applicable fire scenarios, acceptance criteria and output format for performance based design solutions performance by others.
- Ensuring compliance to use of NFPA, IBC, British Standard & Performance based design codes, as well as adapt and utilise other applicable design legislation dependent on region.
- Providing support and guidance to Technical Working Group (TWG)
- Keeping up to date with industry developments with respect to own discipline and understand and appreciate the basic technical principles and drivers of other disciplines
- Developing the technical capabilities of direct reports
- Leading technical solutions on projects
- Contribute to and lead design peer reviews in alignment with the QMS system.

Requirements

- BEng (Hon) degree with minimum 10 years post graduate experience or equivalent fire and life safety consulting experience and qualifications
- Member of Professional body such as MIFireE, SFPE, NFPA
- C.Eng preferred although not essential.
- Experience and proven ability to manage projects and team in a fire consultancy environment in the Middle East
- Experienced user of Microsoft Office
- Comprehensive experience of technical design and associated discipline software.
