Associate Director - Geotechnical - London, UK

As a technical expert working across exciting, multi-disciplinary projects, this role will see you working as our ground engineering discipline lead and manage the delivery from our geotechnical team. We are now recruiting for an Associate Director in our ground engineering discipline. Working on international projects that have ranged from Battersea Power Station in London to iconic stadiums around the world, our ideal candidate will have experience in soil mechanics or geotechnical engineering in a multidisciplinary environment. Advising on analytical technicques and numerical modelling, you will lead our ground engineering discipline and act as point of expertise for both internal and external clients.

Responsibilities and duties include:
- To generate a passion and enthusiasm for delivering design excellence in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
- Undertake lead technical roles and provide leadership and professional expertise.
- Deliver projects across a varied range of sectors and locations globally.
- Promote and secure discipline development.
- Apply a high level of technical or sector knowledge and skills.
- Raise BuroHappolds reputation for technical excellence externally.
- Prepare financial and technical proposals.
- Reviews job financial performance and adjust resources accordingly.
- Undertake high-level project technical/quality reviews and attend design workshops for projects relevant to experience across the practice.
- Contribute to BuroHappold-wide initiatives with respect to technical development / market sectors and processes.

Technical Expertise
- Operate as a Project Director/Leader demonstrating exemplar professional and technical delivery skills in this capacity.
- Provide a design review service to internal/external clients facilitating the incorporation of optimum technical solutions within the scope of the project.
- Lead technical analysis and design contribution.
- Relationship Management
- Ensuring consistent delivery of quality project products and solutions.
- Operate as a technical ambassador building relationships with relevant industry, professional and academic contacts to maximise the Companys profile and capability.

- Commitment to CPD and self-learning including development of own preferred area of expertise.

Requirements

- Chartered Engineer or equivalent preferred (MICE preferred).
- Degree qualified in a relevant subject (Civil Engineering preferred).
- Post graduate qualification preferred (e.g. Geotechnical or Foundation Engineering).
- Corporate membership of a relevant institution (e.g. MICE).
- Broad experience of complex geotechnical engineering across buildings and civil developments, in the UK and overseas, working with a range of organisations, contractors, architects and clients.
- Strong communication skills with good command of English. In addition we would welcome candidates who also possess further language skills.
- Experience working to UK design codes and regulatory processes.
- Confident, proactive character, with a track record of taking the lead in challenging situations.
- Able to command respect among peers

Desirable
- Preferably knowledgeable of computer software such as SLOPE, WALLOP, Piglet and PLAXIS 2D (3D also preferred),
- Ideally also experience of working to international codes and regulatory processes.
- Candidates who have an academic footprint are desirable.
