Buro Happold has operated in Saudi Arabia since the foundation of the practice in 1976 and has had an office in Riyadh for over 30 years. The office is part of the Middle East Region with its Regional hub in Dubai. The Saudi Company is a separate entity partly owned by Buro Happold International. The office carries out a combination of design work, site based supervision and design coordination for the multitude of Saudi projects that are designed by our offices around the world.

We are currently searching for an Associate Structural Engineer to join our established design team in Riyadh. The individual must be able to demonstrate a strong track record of working for an Engineering Consultancy.

Associates will typically take responsibility for the management of people, commercial issues and act as an interface with the wider project team. In this capacity Associates represent Buro Happold internally and externally on behalf of the wider structures group.

Job Purpose

- To provide high level technical/design engineering service to the group and acting as job leader on projects as required.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership
Prepare Technical Specifications and check work/specifications of subordinates.
Undertake project technical/quality reviews and attend design reviews for projects.
Contribute to group initiatives with respect to technical development / market sectors and processes.

Project Management
Lead projects on behalf of the group (operating as Job or Project Leader as appropriate), taking ownership for sustained and productive client relationships.
In charge of multiple projects across the group, taking responsibility for the engineering solutions.
Review, with the support of the Associate Director or Director, job financial performance and manage resources accordingly.

Team Leadership
Lead a team on specific projects within the Group (mainly junior Engineers and Technicians).
Guiding the lower level team members in order to achieve the project success.
Support delivery of the teams Performance and Development Review process.

Business Development
Support the group in seeking new work from existing clients.
Supporting the groups marketing goals and plan.
Develop own Client relationships and secure repeat work where possible, with support of the Group Director(s) and Associate Director(s).
Prepare Technical proposals.
Prepare bid proposals and additional fee proposals with support of the Group Director(s) and Associate Directors(s).

Requirements

Qualifications
Bachelor degree (BEng) / BSc or Masters degree (MEng) / MSc.
Chartered Engineer CEng MIStructE or equivalent.

Essential Experience
The individual must be a degree holder with a minimum of 15 years experience and must be a chartered engineer with registered engineer status.
Demonstrable experience of running a team of people within the Group
Ability to accept a high degree of responsibility in a team-based organization, combined with ability to work independently.
Broad design knowledge, from working on a wide range of projects.
Experienced technical and project leader; track record of successful delivery over a sustained period within the industry.
Mentoring and leading others, developing individuals skills, whilst encouraging collaboration and cohesive teamwork.
Diverse sector experience.
The applicant will need to have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Excel (a detailed understanding including the use of macros).

Desirable Experience
Ideally, the individual will also have considerable experience working on international projects or in the Middle East and REVIT Software Knowledge.
