Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Responsible for delivering high-quality bids on time and within budget. This individual will develop and manage a bid team, key customer relationships as well as key internal Serco relationships and the governance process. The Bid Director has ultimate responsibility for submitting a winning bid that is technically compliant, innovative and can be implemented to agreed timescales and budget. All key risks must have been clearly presented at each level of governance.

To build, lead and motivate high performing bid teams, in accordance with Serco`s governing principles, with an expectation to win
- Identify and lead the right resources, including Finance & Commercial, HR
- Lead, create and implement winning bid strategies, including teaming strategies
- Manage a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders

To lead strategic development of bids to ensure a persuasive, commercially competitive offering that fully reflects customer requirements
- Ensure competitive and sustainable bid within approved Serco margins
- Shape commercial agreements with customer and opportunity owners
- Lead customer negotiations to contract close in conjunction with the opportunity owners
- Deliver winning bid strategies to achieve short, medium and long term growth targets
- Manage activities to agreed budget, resources and timescales, maximising ROI
- Ownership of bid from start to completion

To work with Business Development Directors to develop and manage a network of senior relationships with customers, potential customers, partners and stakeholders to ensure customer requirements are anticipated, understood and met.
- Develop and implement effective communications and stakeholder management plans which favourably influence the buying decision.
- Manage customer relationships.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, our competitors, new technologies and service solutions within the market.
- Internal Stakeholder Management.

To work closely with the Operational business, ensuring the bid aligns with Serco`s operational strategy.
- Include innovation and continuous improvement in all bids.
- Secure Operations buy-in and ensure bid is viewed as deliverable.
- Ensure effective handover to and ongoing communication with Transition Leaders during the transition phase.
- Provide support through early part of contract period to maximise customer satisfaction and re-bid success.

To oversee compliance with Serco`s governance process, including management of Project Boards.
- Ensure bid is consistent with the authority delegated by the Gate 4 Project Board Meeting / Divisional Board / Investment Committee / Serco Group plc Board
- Lead any presentations to the Investment Committee, the Approvals & Allotment Committee and the Serco Group plc Board
- Ensure that the contract that is signed is consistent with the authority delegated by the Gate 5 Project Board

Requirements

- Being part of a senior management team, building and leading successful teams (GBP 20m per annum contracts).
- Significant programme/project management experience.
- Considerable involvement in bidding/transitioning/managing contracts.
- Delivering winning high-quality bids on time and within budget.
- Minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
