The RoleThe RoleSupports the Transportation Design Manager in providing direction and management of the bridge design requirements for the project. Interfaces with the Consultant’s Design Team to monitor schedule and budget performance. Reviews, coordinates and monitors bridge design to ensure compliance with design standards, specifications and standard practice. A key function is to respond to design RFIs, review/comment on Change Orders, and provide overall supervision for the design direct reports, while managing schedule and budget control. Supports the Construction and Assistant Construction Manager in resolving structural engineering matters. Reviews proposed field changes, performs engineering analysis and makes recommendations to management. Performs site inspections and witnesses tests, as necessary. Key Tasks and Duties: Responsible for overall management of the bridge design services performed by others. Responsible for management of the delivery of the design of the various bridge projects by verifying consistency in the design with respect to adherence to the design criteria and required standards. Assists in the scope development and tendering process, as necessary, to support the procurement of the design consultants, third party reviewers as well as contractors. Participates in the VE and manage all VE studies, constructability and other workshops; and drives the on-schedule submittal of the bridge design deliverables. Keeps Project Management Team constantly informed as to changes made in the field to ensure timely processing of contract change orders. Maintains overall knowledge of drawings, specifications, general contracts and time schedules related to the various bridge projects. Ensures all bridge design works are comprehensive and discussed with the various engineers for the best implementation and installation of services in coordination with other parties and contractor. May participate in negotiations with regulatory agencies in public meetings to support the client in matters related to the bridge works. Provides necessary technical support and design review / audit services to project management team ensuring the correctness and quality of implementation of requirements. Supports the Transportation Design Manager in performing other tasks as deemed necessary related to the bridge aspects of the project. |
RequirementsRequirements4-year degree in Degree in Civil or Structural Engineer or equivalent technical degree, and at least 10 years of related work experience. Experience in bridge-related design and construction commensurate with the construction of large highway and interchange projects. Registration as a professional engineer is a plus. Proven ability to perform in a management role, excellent written and oral communications skills, and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are also required. In addition, must be knowledgeable of current technology and how it can be effectively utilized on the project. |
