Building Envelope Designer

Job description / Role

Leading International Engineering consultancy is looking to recruit enthusiastic innovative designers and engineers to join their newly established Innovation Design group.

This division is dedicated to developing and delivering quality and innovative systems through integrated multidisciplinary design and advanced research. Their design philosophy revolves around fusing the principles of the various disciplines and associated sciences to develop contextually inspired solutions as one integrated building system that responds to the dynamic nature of end-users, environment and market. The groups uniting approach to innovation and integration draws design inspiration from nature using algorithmic thinking and advanced computation. This involves collaboration with business partners to prototype, test and validate new solutions. The group comprises of designers, architects, engineers, sustainability specialists, and researchers from various backgrounds working under the umbrella of one team.

This division offers training and a development plan for fresh candidates who wish to pursue a career in multidisciplinary design and engineering with special focus on advanced building envelopes.

Role:
- Designing and developing innovative building envelopes solutions as part of a larger specialised project team.
- Carry out geometry analysis and 3D parametric modelling of conventional and complex building envelopes.
- Assist in liaising with other parties involved in the development process; architects, engineers, contractors, etc.

Requirements

- BSc/MSc in Architecture, Structural/Mechanical/Industrial/Building-Physics or other related engineering or technical field.
- Facade engineering courses or training CPDs would be highly desirable.
- Any past experience with architectural, engineering, or specialist contracting organisations related to building envelopes would be highly advantageous.
- This person will have an excellent command in English, written and spoken. Other languages would be advantageous.
- Microsoft Office, AutoCAD 2D, 3D latest versions, Rhino-Grasshopper / Revit / Inventor / or other similar parametric software.
- Ability to produce conceptual 3D diagrams using 3DS Max, Sketchup, or other related software.
- Free-hand sketching and Photoshop/Adobe CS presentation skills would be highly advantageous as would knowledge of Ecotect and other facade analysis related software
