Within the United Arab Emirates, AECOM announced that it is providing development management services to Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) for the Saadiyat Cultural District.

Saadiyat Island is one of the Arabian Gulf’s largest single mixed-used developments. Saadiyat Cultural District will include some of the world’s most significant museums including the Zayed National Museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Louvre Abu Dhabi as well as more than one million square feet of mixed-use facilities.

AECOM’s work involves acting as an extension of the project owner from the inception through to facilities completion. The programs are extremely fast moving, necessitating the requirement to bring together the best talent.

Role:

Provide BIM Technical Services for program and special projects for Saadiyat Island Cultural District program and associated projects for all phases of design, construction and commissioning to help meet client’s BIM goals.

Responsibilities:

• Provide support to project delivery teams by managing the resolution of BIM related issues and tasks.
• Liaison with client’s wider BIM initiatives. Integrate them into program.
• Provide oversight, direction and support to project designers and contractors for integration of the program’s BIM policy. Work with the client, their consultants and contractors to coordinate BIM issues with projects.
• Work with design teams to refine the models and BIM deliverables.
• Work with Client and AECOM management to enhance reporting through the use of BIM.
• Collaboratively define BIM scope and deliverables
• Facilitate model handover from designer to contractor.
• Evaluate contractor proposals with regard to BIM
• Work with contractor to integrate submittals, manufacturer’s data and as-built information into the BIM model.
• Work with contractor to extract quantities of material and production rates from the model
• Work with contractor to facilitate early release of prefabricated components and long lead items
• Work with contractor to integrate BIM into the RFI process in order to more clearly communicate information.
• Monitor and guide the model advancement and utilization process through construction.
• Assist with integrating BIM into the commissioning process
• Review the contractor’s as-built BIM model.
• Perform reviews of work which involves conventional BIM practice, but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
• Participate in interdisciplinary reviews.

Requirements

• The position requires a bachelor’s degree, although a master’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field is preferable. Member of technical society preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of standard BIM practices, techniques, and procedures
• Working knowledge of applicable codes and regulations
• Understanding of computer systems and their applications.
• Support the interfacing of the Electronic Program Management system (ePM) with BIM.
• Minimum ten years experience.
• Implement and follow Quality Assurance Program procedures.
• Understand LEED, Estidama, BREAM and other sustainable initiatives.

Position Specific Deliverables:

• Write and obtain approval of BIM Construction Model Set-up Policy and Procedure
• Write and obtain approval of Contractors BIM Execution Plan Template
• Review and comment on Tender Documents relative to BIM
• Review and provide written comment report on Contractors BIM Execution Plans
• Provide BIM Workflow input to Program Manager’s Report to the Client.

Minimum content to include:
• BIM Issue Tracker
• Audit Reports from BIM for Clash Detection and RFIs
• Alternate Exercises pending, in-progress and completed including results
• Status of Model Development according to trade, work breakdown structure identifier (phasing), cost categories, submittal/shop drawing integration, and project close-out requirements
• BIM Transmittal Log
• BIM Exports to ePM
• BIM planned versus actual validation report.
• Establish and maintain a project specific BIM on-line portal for sharing of pertinent information, discussion forum, best practices, and other project benefiting information exchanges
• Publish a monthly Best Practices Report to inform Program Team Members of new developments, innovations and other industry trends or ideas that could benefit the Program.
• Develop and conduct BIM workshops and training sessions. Courses and descriptions to be determined, but may include:
• Installation and use of viewer software for BIM
• Navigating BIM aspects within ePM.
