The Role

Develop a pro-active and flexible business development strategy to deliver the agency’s New Business objectives. Take an active involvement in the development of the agency business.

Reporting to:

Chief Operating Officer

Main Duties:

Understanding the Agency

• Understand and promote the Agency’s credentials to prospects, clients and Agency personnel.
• To be involved in the development of the overall agency positioning and go to market approach.
• To tailor the agency’s positioning to prospects depending on their requirements.
• Actively promote the Agency
• Understand and promote the agency’s client work to prospects.
• Harness agency initiatives, research or planning findings to drive new business.
• Develop new products and services with other senior managers to capitalise on business opportunities.

Prospect Management

• Identify overall prospect pool for the Agency. Make recommendations for the top prospects list, based on agency experience and market knowledge.
• Drive initiatives/strategy that tackle individual prospects and a wider sector list.
• Actively monitor key prospects to seek opportunities for dialogue and interaction.
• Oversee the management of the relationship and activity of the outbound prospecting.
• Ensure effective administration systems are deployed to deliver the outbound activity.

Pitch Management

• Oversee the management of the relationship with the prospect from pre - brief to post pitch de-brief.
• Liaising with COOto identify the most appropriate team/process to work on the pitch matching the prospect culture and personnel with the most appropriate agency mix.
• Where appropriate take overall responsibility for the pitch – providing strategic direction on business and creative recommendations.
• Front pitch and prospective client meetings when in conjunction with the senior directors and heads of departments – ideally match prospect to relevant team member.

Requirements

Business Development Strategy

• Develop overall Agency growth strategyin line with company guidelines, procedures, commercial needs and financial targets.
• Review strategy and tactics on a regular basis and adjust accordingly.
• Monitor market place for changes that impact on strategy.

Financial Management (relevant to Director level)

• Establish return/investment levels for each pitch taking into account both external and internal costs.
• Ensure the final tailoring of financial packages to prospects requirements: best practice, efficiency and transparency for both parties.
• Fully understand the standardised Client Agency contracts.
• The Business Development Director should be accountable for all costs associated with ongoing departmental budget and ongoing pitches.
• Ensure the minimisation of agency exposure to third party costs.
• Drive the delivery of new business financial performance, maintaining regular dialogue with the Finance Director, the Regional BD Director and the General Manager.

Team Management (relevant to director level)

• Set clear goals and objectives for the performance of direct reports.
• Put in place and oversee relevant processes and procedures are in place to manage the new business process with all team members
• Implement and contribute to the performance and career management process ensuring personal review meetings are held on a regular basis. Ensure content is constructive, providing feedback and an opportunity to agree next steps.
• Work with the Regional BD Director to ensure all team members have fulfilled all HR needs and requirements.
• Inspire team and direct team to achieve positive end results.
• Ensure:
* Management of team issues
* Team training and development needs are agreed and ensure liaison with Regional BD Director to agree training plan
* Ensure relevant attendance at key prospect meetings
* Ensure the appropriate delegation of tasks and responsibilities across the team
* Team are kept informed of wider Agency issues
