Job Description

Job Purpose:
- Support the team in balancing priorities of governance, audit, people, financial performance and franchise management responsibilities.
- To support the team in providing leadership for the Group in Islamic Banking through developing overall strategy.
- Assist Business Unit Head and BORM in coordinating, driving and directing effective compliance and operational risk management at the business unit level.
- Implement controls within the business unit to meet all regulatory and internal requirements.
- Ensure proper functioning of day-to-day controls, periodic monitoring activities and timely escalation / resolution of risk issues

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:
- Managing and driving the Islamic Banking financial performance by working with individual countries to ensure that financial results are on track to exceed or deliver targets, that forecasting in accurate and that the business is managing its cost budget effectively.
- Participating in Budget and investment exercise in order to support the business growth.
- Developing a consolidated strategy also participation in the business specific Consumer Banking/Wholesale Banking strategy development process.
- Coordinating with countries as well as internal parties in developing Strategic presentation, to communicate business goals and performance to internal stakeholders.
- Coordinating with Group Marketing by providing key information on the business and working together with media partners to enhance the bank's internal and external reputation.
- To be the source of reference within the business unit in facilitating and promoting the understanding of OR and compliance requirements.
-.Lead and support implementation of OR initiatives for the business unit.
- Proactively communicate with the Business Unit Head and BORM on operational risk issues.
- Escalate significant events to Business Unit Head / BORM as appropriate
- Ensure risks and issues identified are resolved in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Assist BORM in the implementation of OR framework or other relevant OR initiatives.
- Could act as the Unit Money Laundering Prevention Officer (UMLPO), or cooperate with the UMLPO to ensure appropriate internal controls and procedures for money laundering prevention is in place and functioning as intended.
- Where appropriate, assist in the investigation of financial crime risks.
- Identify gaps and arrange training on compliance and OR for staff.
- Acting as Departmental Continuity Coordinator (DCC) to ensure that Islamic bank unit has adequate and updated contingency plan

Requirements

Qualifications & Skills
- An understanding of governance and local regulations is a must
- Previous experience within a front-line Sales or Product role is preferred
- Strong business acumen and capability to deal with senior stakeholders essential
- An understanding and working knowledge of Islamic Banking products highly desirable
- Capability to drive agendas, a strategic business partner
- English language skills are essential
- Arabic language skills are preferred
- The ideal candidate will be highly analytical, an understanding of credit and financial analysis preferred
