Cabling Technician

Job description / Role

The ideal candidate will have played a key role in designing, pulling, terminating and testing of a wide variety of data communication and power (limited) cables.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate skills in the following areas:

Responsible for running new cabling in new or existing buildings. Termination and testing of new cabling with appropriate hardware per manufacturer and industry standards. Must be able to verify service by testing circuits, equipment and alarms; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.

Must be able to document network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.

Must possess computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook very helpful. Understand, adheres to and promote Environmental, Health and Safety policies.

Requirements

- 2 - 4 years of experience in installation, configuration, troubleshooting and performing testing activities on Copper, Cat5, Cat6 and Fibre Optic cables as well as other relevant network equipment
- Good secondary level qualification in related field is preferable, but not required
- Hands-on experience of various cable testing tools
- Experience in site surveys, cable selection, cable vendors selection
- Experience in pulling, troubleshooting and repairing of inside and outside premises wiring
- Must have experience in reading blue prints and/or job specifications to determine cable pathways and establish cabling pulling schedule
