Chief Engineer / Engineering Manager

Job description / Role

Our client, an industry leader in formwork are seeking a Chief Engineer/Engineering Manager to head up there design team based in Hong Kong.

Sought candidate should have knowledge of formwork and falsework, who can design and check work done by the HK based team. In essence, to work closely with the Engineering Manager for design reviews. You would also be responsible for designing complex structures / solutions utilizing standard material and specially designed steelwork

Candidate will also be required to undertake the following tasks:

To ensure that all design works are in accordance with company standard in Health and Safety and that the designs are also in accordance with the countrys codes and construction standards.
To ensure that the DPM is followed and that a proper coordination with the Technical Office in Australia is done for designs that are outside the DPM.
To coordinate with the design engineers for the preparation of technical schemes and quotations for customers including calculations if required.
To have an awareness and pro active personal responsibility for Company Quality Assurance and Health and Safety issues
To contribute to the areas of technical input required during the preparation of Sales Team proposals for large projects
Assist Sales Engineers in Technical Presentation or Contract negotiations with customers whenever required.
To assemble relevant CAD data from the Design Engineer and feed back to Technical HO in Australia
Where the volume of work dictates, to manage an interim project team of Design Engineering staff in order to satisfy the needs of the project and to report project progress in a consistent format to the Design Engineering Manager
To familiarize with available equipment and its technical properties
To prepare proposal design, as per allowed of the countrys DPM, of a more complex, intricate or specialized nature than those usually carried out by a Design Engineer
To occasionally prepare erection drawing as per allowed of the countrys DPM for orders with regards to available equipment in the country
To prepare accurate equipment take off of the erection drawing and coordinate with Company Yard with regards to equipment substitution.
To prepare calculations for the designed project
To work closely with other designers with regards to design innovations and calculations
Familiarize self with Company Engineering Risk Management Manual and to ensure compliance where appropriate

Requirements

Candidate will be required to:

Lead major projects from meeting customers to discussing technical solutions (together with the Sales Engineer), do conceptual design and detailing, including calculations, and lead a small team to develop such designs
To check designs of Design Engineers before release to client or submission to Technical HO as per allowed by the countrys DPM
To contribute to the growth and profitability of the Group
