Job Purpose:

The Chief Enterprise Architect is a member of the bank’s IT’s leadership team having primary responsibility to ensure that the bank’s IT solution is well engineered, operable, maintainable, aligns to product strategy/vision and provides the anticipated business value. The Chief Enterprise Architect is expected to provide solutions that are scalable, adaptable and sustainable to meet ever changing business needs. This role requires active and effective collaboration with the CIO, IT-BSLs, application solution development & implementation teams, operations personnel, business users, and vendors

Accountabilities:

• Responsible to the CIO/ COO as the primary authority for IT Architecture and governance, across all specializations in enterprise and solutions architecture, including infrastructure, integration, core banking applications, banking support, information, operations and security architecture, as well as providing definitive leadership and direction for the critical transformational programmes within IT Development/ Solution Delivery.
• Responsible for providing thought leadership across all aspects of banking IT, including digital and self-service channels, customer interaction and experience, transactional banking, data warehousing and data analytics/ BI, middleware and business process orchestration and back-office/ operations automation. The Chief Architect will direct those most promising new technologies for innovation investment and incubation through to commercial implementation and adoption and will ensure that the bank is able to adopt and benefit from emerging trends and technologies more quickly than its competitors.
• Responsible for implementing the architecture/ solution governance procedures that ensure business change requests and projects initiated as a result use the most appropriate technologies and applications to deliver coordinated change to the IT estate.
• Responsible for managing and maintaining the enterprise wide inventories of applications, technologies, products, infrastructure and network/ support that will support compliance work to ensure PCI and regulatory compliance and provide a stable and repeatable set of data to support both internal and external system audit requirements.
• Responsible for providing the solution/ development organization with timely advice, guidance and support in the selection and implementation of new and replacement applications and technologies, with a view to reducing complexity and improve the level of standardization and sharing for those services and components that are used by many. (e.g. payments hub, AML, Limits & Collateral management for banking related ‘shared services’ and ECM (enterprise content and document management), middleware, ERP (GL & HRMS), collaboration (Sharepoint) and internal portals, CRM (customer relationship management) and MDM (Master Data Management) for corporate ‘shared services’ )
• Responsible for creating, validating and communicating the reference architecture for IT, again with domain specializations for information, applications, infrastructure and security (at least) and for making sure that the Go-To view is properly aligned with the overall IT and business strategies of the bank.
• Responsible for driving product and technology assessments, including formal RFI/ RFP processes for product and technology procurement and for the preparation of architecture briefings and position papers for exec and senior decision makers within the bank. Overall responsibility for the technology mix and direction through periods of intense change and application transformation.
• Responsible for helping the bank maintain an acceptable level of ‘owned’ intellectual property and deep system knowledge, including the establishment of centers of excellence in those products and vendor technologies in which the bank relies most, along with the assurance that technical risk attributed to vendor solutions and the use of external solution developers is maintained at reasonable levels.
• Provide leadership & training to technical staff to develop a highly skilled cadre of IT Architecture, and Solutioning resources within the Bank

Key Performance Indicators:

• Completion of high quality target technology models
• Creation of and adherence to architecture governance and principles
• Creation of innovative technology solutions in-line with SDLC standard timeframes.

Requirements

Education / Qualifications:

Educated at minimum of degree level in relevant IT discipline.

Experience:

• At least 10 years experience in IT Development and IT Architecture operating at senior management level.
• Experience of operating through the end to end Technology stack to create high value adding solutions for the business.
• Experience of all core technologies used in Banking with a particular emphasis on digital channels and the emerging technologies associated with them.
• Successfully overseen major IT change Programmes from a Core on Technology, Governance and Architecture Perspective.
• Middle East Regional Banking Experience
