The Legal, Security and Ethics and Compliance Teams each provide support to the entire Supreme Group in their respective areas of expertise. All of the Teams offer support to each Business Unit and Group functions to provide advice and guidance in each area

PRIMARY JOB PURPOSE
The Chief Legal Counsel/ Deputy General Counsel is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Legal department, provision of legal advisory services, developing litigation strategies and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks and to perform legal tasks as required by the Line Manager.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
All departments across the business and operational locations.
Any legal authority required to assist with Supreme’s business, external lawyers, advisors, customers and clients.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Chief Legal Counsel/ Deputy General Counsel is responsible and accountable for (but not limited to) the following:

•Managing the activities of the Legal Services function through supervision and support to ensure excellent service provision to all stakeholders.
•Oversee negotiations of all types of contracts (Procurement Contracts, Service Contracts, Employment Contracts, Property (lease/freehold) Contracts etc) within various jurisdiction (US, Europe. APAC, Middle East, etc) ensuring compliance to our customer contracts and a commercially beneficial agreement for Supreme.
•Manage incorporation in new jurisdictions in close cooperation with one or more business units and corporate functions.
•Review progress of outstanding litigation and liaise with and manage internal and external lawyers.
•Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders ensuring a positive brand for Supreme Group.
•Supporting the Loss Prevention and Claims process for Supreme Transport.
•Designing and implementing internal controls, policies and procedures to assure compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations and third party guidelines
•Manage all legal aspects of governmental procurement in particular in relation to US governmental/military food, fuel and logistics contracts including knowledge of US Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)
•Ensuring that the Group Director is at all times apprised of developments within the Function’s remit
•Acts as a resource on the interpretation of existing or proposed local, state, or federal laws and regulations.
•Providing professional and strategic advice to the Group Director and senior management
•Managing and coordinating the company’s approach towards litigation/other proceedings to which the company is party or potentially party;
•Manage the resources of the team and look after any recruiting projects as required.
•Overseeing production of legal output, managing the corporate legal documentation and procedures of the various team members.
•Identifying legal risks and proposing solutions to mitigate them ensuring best outcome for Supreme
•Managing and advising on contentious and litigious issues as required
•Manage staff performance, disciplinary issues, leave, etc to ensure a fully efficient work force.
•Working closely with all direct reports providing quality leadership and training experiences to promote ethical and effective claim handling procedures.
•Perform other duties as requested by the Group Director for Corporate & Legal Affairs.

Requirements

Desired Skills & Experience

Essential:

•Legal masters from Common Law jurisdiction (awarded in either US, UK, NZ, Australia etc).
•Minimum 6 - 8 years experience as a qualified lawyer in a reputable firm.
•Experience across a breadth of fields like Transport, Logistics, Compliance, Employment Issues, Litigation, Fuels, etc.
•Must demonstrate the ability to multi task and work in a high pressure environment Must be detail orientated
•Should be highly responsive to all internal stakeholders
•The ability to handle a diverse work load and multi-task are crucial to succeed in this position Business drive, ability to work in a fast paced environment, flexible and “hands on” approach
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•The candidate will have both corporate and commercial experience, working within a respected International Law Firm
•The candidate must demonstrate a high degree of initiative and must be a self starter Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Desirable: Proficiency over a second language: German, French, Spanish, etc.

Regular International Travel may be required to destinations including Afghanistan, Africa etc.
