Construction Corporate Counsel

Job description / Role

The candidate should be a wide experience as litigator in civil, commercial and criminal litigation. And should be able to represent the company in hearings and mediations as well as tribunals.

Main responsibilities:
- Compiling information for court cases and finding laws or similar court decisions related to pending cases .
- Conducting legal research.
- Interpreting laws or legislation and explaining Government laws or regulations.
- Analyzing data, legal questions and existing evidence or facts.
- Supervise outsourcing legal services and external counsels on specialized matters including financing matters.
- Prepare court documents, commercial agreements and policy documents.
- Drafting and filing criminal cases and attend to hearings at various court, police stations and other organisms of Qatar.
- Drafting, reviewing and/or advising on some commercial contracts relating to the Company business in Qatar.
- Ensure proper compliance by the Company with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Recommend the strategy to represent the company before the courts and other legal bodies and manage dispute resolution, negotiation and settlement of claims.
- Prepare/review various agreements to ensure legal and commercial principles are followed to best protect the interests of the company.
- Frame issues and obtain effective and timely management review and decisions and often lead the negotiation on behalf of the company for major projects and new business agreements.
- Provide advice on legal matters; claims, interpretation of agreements, etc.

Working Hours: Sat- Wed 07:30-17:30 / Thu 07:30-14:00

Requirements

- Bachelor's Degree in Law
- Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as an in-house counsel or within a major international law firm with specialization in construction industry, litigation, commercial contracts or project finance.

Specialist knowledge:
- High analytic and legal drafting skills and ability to grasp and articulate technical and commercial detail.
- Expertise in drafting pleadings and other court documents.
- Technical proficiency in basic legal principles (e.g. contracts, torts).

Soft Skills and Personality traits:
- Proven track record in working effectively as a team leader in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments.
- Significant negotiation and persuasion skills.
- High computer proficiency.
- Excellent reasoning and out-of the box thinking skills.
- Language Fluency: Candidate must be fluent in English (Arabic will be a plus).
- Other certifications obtained: License to practice law following apprenticeship or bar examination in Qatar.
