Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

• Conducts group counseling sessions on topics designed to meet the needs of students (e.g. - study problems, adjustment, resolving conflict and classroom communication)
• Conducts individual counseling sessions for students upon request and maintains appropriate records
• Liaises with faculty and staff to assist them in working effectively with students and in identifying students whom may require counseling
• Designs and conducts student development workshops on relevant student-centered topics and identifies appropriate external speakers
• Maintains current knowledge of available community resources and referral processes; liaises with students' families and community agencies as appropriate
• Collaborates with Career Advisors or Work Placement staff to develop materials and resources for students' personal and professional development
• Assists students with special needs and medical conditions and advocates with supervisors and faculty as required
• Assist with student orientation sessions and participates in college programs related to student success (e.g. - peer tutoring programs, health and wellness activities, etc.)
• Responds to emergencies at the college and provides crisis intervention as required
• Keeps abreast of developments in the field by engaging in professional development activities
• Contributes to the development of the organization by monitoring programs and identifying areas for improvement; by observing and implementing College and system-wide policies and procedures; and by participating in extra-curricular activities and community events
• Travels to attend meetings, workshops and conferences as required
• Develops an awareness of and respect for the customs and cultures
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements

• A minimum 2 years of counseling experience, preferably in a college or university setting
• Previous experience in workshop development and delivery
• A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the workplace
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to build strong relationships with students, faculty and college administration
• Highly developed organizational, analytical and problem solving skills are required
• The ability to work effectively as a team member in a multi-cultural environment
• A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to develop and improve new and current skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is essential
