MISSION:
The mission is in support of F-16 Base Operations Support/Base Life Support/ Security (BBS services) to provide effective and efficient F-16 BBS services to the Iraqi F-16 mission at Balad Air Base as part of a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) case to the Government of Iraq.

SCOPE:
The Dental Assistant reports to the Dentist and will be supervised by the Dentist. While performing field work, a Dental Assistant may take work direction from another primary medical provider (Physicians, Surgeons, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Physicians Assistants) on the work site. The Dental Assistant will deliver services in a clinical or hospital setting and assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a Dentist or physician.
At the direction of the Dentist or a site medical director, the Dental Assistant prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, sterilizes, disinfects instruments and equipment, develop and expose dental radiographs. Obtains and updates patients’ dental records. All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations and the high-quality standard for which CHS is recognized.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, sterilizes and disinfects instruments and equipment.
• Obtains and updates patients’ dental records and prepares and lays out instruments and materials required to treat each patient.
• Makes patients comfortable in the dental chair and prepares them for treatment.
• Assist the dentist in oral surgery, periodontrics, endodontrics and general dentistry.
• Assists by handing instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction hoses or other devices.
• Instructs patients on postoperative and general oral healthcare.
• Prepares materials for impressions and restorations, as prescribed by a dentist.
• May remove sutures; apply topical anesthetics to gums or cavity-preventive agents to teeth.
• May remove excess cement used in the filling process, and place dental dams to isolate teeth for treatment.
• Orders and maintains inventory of supplies.
• Take and record vital signs.
• Develop and expose dental diagnostic xrays.
• Performs clerical functions related to dental activities.
• Possess the ability to work effectively with patients.
• Practice infection control procedures.
• Have the ability to recognize an emergency and how to respond accordingly.
• Orders and maintains inventory of supplies.
• All Health Care Providers (HCPs) will review patient’s health history; document care delivered and follows up on care required.
• Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
• Maintain the highest regard for patient dignity and observe the precepts of the American Hospital Associations Bill of Rights for patients.
• Assists with the managing of day to day activities and prioritizing tasks.
• Operates personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software.
• Complies with all applicable CHS standards and guidelines.
• Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Completion of an approved Dental Assistant course in the United States, Office radiology training is desired.
• High school diploma or country of origin equivalent.
• Have three years’ experience.
• Current dental radiology license.
• Hold and maintain a current unrestricted U.S. (State) dental license.
• Certification by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) or equivalent.
• Must have and maintain current certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within dental field is required.
• Participate in training, (including HIPAA training).
• All health care providers, medical and dental support staff must have recent clinical experience in patient care for at least 6 months out of the past year.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Must have a current Passport
• Must sign an offer letter.
• Requires a corporate background check, and a favorably adjudicated investigation if required by contract.
• Work hours are based on 45 per week.
• Ability to speak, write and communicate in English is highly desirable.
• Will have a valid, current country of origin or International Driver’s license.
• Shall be proficient in the ability to speak, write and communicate in English.
• Shall demonstrate proficiency in the use of basic word processing programs and the CHS Medical Management System software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be confirmed by a medical examination to be “medically and dentally fit” in accordance with CHS requirements.
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Travel is required by surface and/or air.
• The climate is desert-like, hot, and prone to dust storms.
