Job description / Role

Job Objective:
Provides Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) engineering and coordination support to assess proposed design changes from original scope of work. Work includes, but not limited to, assessing proposed variation orders provided by design consultants, assessment of entitlement, determining Level of Effort (LOE). Also, the DCE is expected to negotiate variation orders and time extension with design consultants while coordinating fully with design support team, his/her manager and client. Furthermore, the DCE is expected to prepare internal memorandums justifying VOs entitlement, time extension and fee.
Key Accountabilities:
- Manages the MEP design related changes and interface with design team and design consultants to finalize a variation order and schedule change.
- Review the MEP design variation orders request and advise client of entitlement.
- Review the MEP LOE related to a proposed variation order provided by design consultant and provide client LOE opinion.
- Negotiate with design consultant on LOE and agree on estimated man-hour for the VO submitted.
- Prepare justification memorandum to client describing reasons and circumstances for the VO and its scheduling implications.
- Attend meetings with stakeholders to justify and get final approval of the VO.
- Follow up and assume ownership of the VO until approval is granted by client.
Requirements
- BSc degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related technical field from a recognized university.
- 8 years of related work experience preferably in large-scale development projects where general design services were performed.
- Incumbent must have a broad general technical design background to facilitate the design change assessments in a timely manner.
- Proven ability to perform in a technical capacity, good written and oral communications skills, and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are also required.
