Design Manager - Bridges (KSA)

Atkins has been established in the Gulf for over 40 years, having first carried out design and supervision commissions in the Gulf area in 1967. The regional head office ( Dubai ) was established in 1979.

We provide a full range of design, engineering and project management services for buildings, transportation and other infrastructure programmes .

Atkins in the Middle East now employs around 2,000 staff serving Gulf clients across all market sectors from offices in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, City, Manama, Muscat, Riyadh , Sharjah.

As part of our regional growth plans, we are currently looking for an experienced Design Manager for KSA.

Responsibilities:

Technical:
- Providing technical leadership in the successful delivery of:
- Bridge assessments
- Bridge designs covering refurbishment, strengthening and new build (including major projects)
- Construction of bridge maintenance and strengthening schemes up to 1m in value
- Specifications, bills of quantities and supporting site and works information

Project Management:
- Delivery of commercially successful projects/programmes that achieve clients time, cost and quality expectations
- Resource planning and co-ordination, including collaboration between design and construction teams to enable integrated scheme delivery
- Administration of the NEC Contract as Project Manager
- Supervision of construction works by external parties

Line management including:
- Coaching and developing team members covering areas such as technical, project management, commercial awareness and soft skills/behaviours
- Performance management and undertaking staff appraisals
- Assisting with the professional development of others as a Delegate Engineer

Key client contact for all bridge related works including:
- Working collaboratively with clients to understand and develop project objectives
- Managing, building and developing excellent client relationships
- Undertaking client satisfaction surveys and acting on feedback

Requirements

- Chartered Civil Engineer with evidence of extensive post-Chartered career development
- Evidence of leading design teams to achieve clients programme, cost and quality expectations
- Evidence of developing technicians, graduate engineers and senior engineers
- Extensive design and construction experience in the maintenance, modification, strengthening and the new build of bridges and demonstrable evidence of providing pragmatic and cost effective solutions
- Extensive experience of current Highway Agency standards and their pragmatic application in the Local Authority environment
- Proven analytical skills with extensive practical application in bridge design
- Experience of commercial management in the delivery of projects
- Ability to prepare and review technical reports and documents
- Working knowledge of resource planning and programming
- Evidence of managing health and safety in design and construction
- Computer literate particularly with packages such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Project
- Experience of the NEC suite of contract documents and contract administration

Desirable
- Sound knowledge of local authority procedures
- Experience in the use of Eurocodes
- Knowledge of asset management
- Experience in the use of finite element modelling
- Evidence of working effectively with remote teams and resources to deliver successful projects
