Employment: Full Time

The UAE Infrastructure Design Centre in Abu Dhabi has been formed to provide a centralised technical authority and resource for delivery of the following Design Disciplines:

Bridge Engineering

Utility Engineering

Highway Engineering

As the technical centre for these disciplines, the UAE Infrastructure Design Centre will provide the local and regional commercial units with a first class technical capability and efficient managed access to the India GDC.

The Design Manager - Power must demonstrate, at all times, balanced and structured leadership to the Power Design teams; promoting technical excellence and career progression, as well as ensuring up-to-date access and understanding of the relevant design standards for the sectors and territories serviced. They are also responsible, under the guidance of the Head of Utilities to grow and develop the Power sector.

Other key functions include;

Ensure that the power unit is sized in accordance with its forecast pipeline and achieves productivity targets set by the Design Centre Manager and Head of Utilities;

Develop estimates for the delivery of design by their discipline at bid stage and worked within agreed budgets during delivery stage

Achieve the KPI targets set by UAE Infrastructure Design Centre Manager and Head of Utilities;

Report on Quality and Cost of design delivery for their discipline and seek ways to improve efficiency;

Measure and report on the performance of their teams;

Provide an environment for growth and development of skills and capability to service the needs of the local and regional markets

Build and maintain strong communication links with the India GDC design managers and the technical working groups and ensure that their team supports the use and development of the India GDC.

Main Responsibilities

Planning the workload for their teams and ensuring work is undertaken to in accordance with the agreed programme.

Undertaking design checks and reviews in accordance with the BMS;

Actively seek to grow and develop the power sector through engagement with existing and potential clients

Ensure that Discipline Design Teams have access to the latest design standards and work in a constructive, efficient and collaborative manner;

Reporting on the Design Disciplines transition to a 3D design environment and ensuring the implementation of Atkins Design Principles;

Report on Quality and Cost of their Design Team deliverables;

Provide high level technical support and expert witness services to the local and regional businesses and site support teams as required;

Working with the Head of Utilities to ensure the discipline Design team is configured to meet the pipeline, market or project needs;

Identify potential opportunities for new skills and disciplines / innovation;

Requirements

Requirements

Degree qualified (as a minimum) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
Chartered/Certified Electrical Engineer or equivalent;
At least 15 years experience working in a design consultancy with 5 years in the ME region
Experience of working within a contractor environment would beneficial;
Experience of working on major projects;
Experience of multi-discipline design;
Experience of interpreting and understanding local rules, regulations and design guides across the region;
Full understanding of British, American and International design standards;
Excellent technical writing skills, experience of making presentations to and attending meetings with Clients;
Skills in Design Management and Bid Preparation;
Skills and experience in leading a design delivery team and of delivery of workload through an off-shore design centre
Good command of written and spoken English;
