Design Manager

Job description / Role

Our client is a turnkey provider of BMUs throughout the Middle East, providing complete design, manufacture and installation services, backed by comprehensive maintenance and client support services. Across the region, the company employs around 100 multinational staff, most of who work in Design, Engineering and Production. With purpose-built manufacturing facilities in Dubai, the company has a network of regional offices and agents throughout the Middle East.

• Manage a team of 10 Designers, of whom 3 Engineers for Proposal & Estimation and 7 Engineers for Design only
• Guide and support the Proposal Team for optimal project solutions
• Define cost rates for different sub-assemblies
• Check Proposals & Estimation with respect to feasibility & optimization
• Guide and perform compliance to Project specifications
• Identify challenging engineering solutions during proposal stage and induct Engineering feasibility study with the Design team
• Assign projects amongst different Designers
• Maintain the Design Project calendar
• Planning of weekly design work and monitoring through actuals design outputs
• Identify Project requirements and ensure incorporation of all elements of project specifications
• Interact with the Technical Consultant during special Design tasks to find optimum solutions
• Interact with the Sales team to identify special client requirements
• Interact with the Operations team in devising project calendar
• Interact with the Operations team in keeping the delivery schedules on time and within the deadline
• Guide the Design team in the interaction with the workshop floor
• Responsible for submission of Technical Submittals with related calculations and follow up to the stage of obtaining approvals
• Guide from front the design team technically in all design processes
• Responsible for release of design outputs from Designers in form of manufacturing drawings

• Handle projects from concept to manufacturing drawings
• Responsible for the design output of the team in terms of both quality and time
• Guide the design team to form workable subassemblies and assemblies supported by relevant calculations.
• Coordinate with manufacturing team till assembly, testing & commissioning stage
• Visit installations for Design validation
• Supervise the design engineers work, check and release the Design according to company and client standards
• Generate innovative solutions, test & implement
• Monitor Design revisions carried out by every designer
• Reduce Design revisions

Requirements

• Master Degree or Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an internationally recognized institute
• Interested in Research & Development activity cycles in Mechanical Engineering field and related subjects
• Related industry know-how and experience in Building Maintenance Units (BMUs), design, quality and performance will be an added value
• Minimum of 5 years of Managerial experience in a team of 10 members or more
• Minimum 6 to 8 years of Design experience
• Understands quality concepts related to Design & Manufacturing
• Knowledge of:
- Mechanics
- Drives & Controls
- Machine Elements
- Auto CAD (Must)
- Solid Works or Auto Desk Inventor (3D)
- Staad Pro knowledge is an added advantage
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
• U.A.E. driving license
• Excellent managerial skills
