Employment: Full Time

The Khazzan Project is a major onshore tight gas development project that is expected to see approximately 300 wells drilled over 15 years ramping production up to 1 BCF/D with production start-up expected in 2017. The subsurface part of the project will be delivered by a dedicated Subsurface Team based in Muscat, Oman. A field development plan has already been prepared as part of the Select and Define stage activity. Ramp up of development drilling activity will begin in 2Q 2014.

A Development Geologist is now required to join the Reservoir Management Team. The core Reservoir Management Team comprises 9 staff. This will be supplemented in due course with some additional staff to support Khazzan North Appraisal. This is giant field whose fluids range from gas condensate to dry sour gas has the potential for multiple phases of appraisal and development in an area of 2800km2.

This role will be central to integrating the results of the development drilling programme into updates of the development plan. The rig programme will ramp up to eight rigs for development drilling of this giant field. Periodically the development plan will be optimised to maximise field value, a complex multidisciplinary task and the development geologist leads this task. Cataloguing of hydrocarbons and maintaining the Integrated subsurface description is another part of this role.

Development and appraisal of Block 61 will be phased and the role will also participate in appraisal of resources and via a drilling programme inside the immediate Khazzan development and also appraisal of and development of resources outside of Khazzan.

Reservoir Development in Oman will grow to a team of 30+ individuals from diverse backgrounds. Via mentoring and coaching this role will grow BP's technical skills in the Middle East.

Accountable to the Reservoir Management Team Manager for:

* Development well surface well layout: optimisation and documentation of the updates to the development plan in conjunction with other disciplines

* Provision of development geoscience to the engineering and wells teams

* Provision of development geoscience for the formulation of the appraisal plan including reservoir model inputs and volumetrics

* Any well planning requirements or liaison with the new well delivery team in Oman.

* Provision of flow models to other members of the Reservoir Management Team and beyond

* Maintenance of the integrated subsurface description (ISD)

* Technical coaching of other members of the team

Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Geology/Geophysics (Master of Science would be a plus)

10+ years relevant industry experience - development and production & well planning and optimization

Competence in 3D reservoir mapping and geocellular modelling

Deep understanding of Sedimentology & Stratigraphy and experience fluvial and marginal marine reservoirs

Knowledge of Well Planning & Optimization
