The RoleThe RoleThe Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for participating in the Ophthalmic Ultrasound Training Program to provide direct patient care to adult, pediatric and geriatric patients in the Ultrasound Division of the Diagnostic Imaging Department (DID). Under the guidance of department management and exercising appropriate limited independent clinical judgment, the Ultrasound Technologist conducts and assesses diagnostic Ultrasound examinations and related testing needs of patients at the request of the Medical staff, based on specialized knowledge and technical clinical skills, set application protocols and standards, and published guidelines of the Joint Commission on International Accreditation (JCIA). |
RequirementsRequirements1. Graduate of an accredited Certificate Ophthalmic Technician program. 2. Current JCAHPO certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (C.O.T.). 3. Participate in the Ophthalmic Ultrasound Training Program. 4. Acquire a minimum of two (2) years application ophthalmic ultrasound experience 5. Successfully pass the written and practical US exam LV I and II during 2 year training period. 6. Acquire proficiency in clinical skills/knowledge in screening diagnostic Ultrasound/ Biometric/ Keratometry techniques, intraocular pathology, and basic pathology differentiation. 7. Gain knowledge in OCT and HRT 8. Membership in the American Association of Ophthalmic Standardized Echography (AAOSE) or an equivalent professional organization, preferred. 9. Working knowledge of computer technology desirable. 10. Must be fluent in oral and written English. |
