The RoleThe RoleJOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for directing the activities related to inpatient and outpatient HIMS coding and medical records within CCAD. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Develops programs and provides direction for coding department, including the documentation program, operational and capital budgeting and strategic planning - Reviews medical records to ensure that coding and billing are accurate and verifiable through clinical documentation - Identifies trends and variations in coding or claim data submitted and takes appropriate action to provide a resolution and/or explanation of any variances - Develops systems to ensure that the coding workflow and daily activities are conducted in an efficient and effective manner - Acts as a resource for all coded data issues - Communicates with the medical staff regarding coding and other related issues - Develops and implements accounts receivable goals for inpatient and outpatient accounts receivable - Monitors the operational budget and helps explain impacts to cashflow - Maintains coding productivity, quality standards and compliance reporting - Manages the development of internal and external coding review and ongoing education - Manages outpatient, inpatient and emergency depart HIMS data - Serves as the HIMS Data Security Officer |
RequirementsRequirementsEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS - Minimum of eight (8) years experience in a health information management environment is required - Minimum of three (3) years previous Director level or senior level experience is required - EPIC EMR, HIMS, and Revenue Cycle SME is required - Knowledge of coding and reimbursement principles and practices (CPT 4, ICD 9, ICD 10, DRG’s Groupers) is required - Strong customer service and problem-solving skills - Strong oral and written communication skills - Ability to speak and write in English is required - Health care industry experience is required, Cleveland Clinic, Kaiser, or Mayo work experience is highly desirable EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS -Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or Health Information Management, or related field, is required - Master’s degree is preferred - RHIT/A (Registered Health Information Training /Administrator) certification is required |
