Job description / Role

ABOUT CLIENT:

An exciting opportunity with an established leading Middle East based National Oil Company, that functions throughout offshore development sites as well as in the shallow coastal waters with a number of productive oil fields.

JOB PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Develops creative well construction techniques to meet specific situations. Challenges current practices and develops appropriate back up plans to meet emergency situations.

• Determines viability of new techniques and technologies in drilling, completion and workover operations such as multi lateral drilling & completion, under balance drilling, stimulation, testing, etc.

• Introduces techniques / technologies to improve efficiency and quality of directional drilling.

• Prepares contingency plans relating to fire, blowout, pollution, spillage on or around work location and H2S exposure range. Manages emergency response and crisis situation.

• Troubleshoots fishing, sidetracking operations, stuck pipe and advises on fishing techniques and tools. Audits contractor and service companies to improve performance.

• Defines technical requirements for rig equipment and recommends selection of rig equipment to drill all types of wells. Includes evaluating equipment design and advising on specifications to ensure safety. Lead efforts to optimize utilization of rigs.

• Optimizes workover operations and determines operations in light of sound economics. Includes ensuring optimum logistics, proposing alternative workover policies and procedures to save time and cost & improve quality.

• Sets procedures to troubleshoot operation/equipment faults and adopts predictive technology methods to avoid premature failures.

• Design and supervise special coil tubing operation such as coil tubing drilling, under-balance drilling, logging, kick and well control. Handles difficult situations such as coil tubing for differential stuck & complete fishing operation.

• Advise on well testing operations. Includes reviewing test program and liaising with PDD to finalize testing requirements, as required. Carries out quick look interpretation of test results and follows up on data analysis and final interpretation results. Develops contract strategy for well testing.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering, plus relevant advanced courses in Drilling/Completion/ Directional Drilling and Blow Out prevention methods & well control certification.

12 years' drilling/workover engineering experience with specific emphasis on drilling technology and blow out prevention techniques and methods.
