Electrical Design Engineer

Job description / Role

Job Objective:

Performs conventional and moderately-complex engineering assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses within a discipline. The Engineer at this level is proficient in the utilization of standard engineering theories and practices, and Company procedures. Some assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications. Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations is expected.

Key Accountabilities:

• Preparation of various stages of design from concept through to detailed submissions for HV, MV & LV networks.
• Preparation of design reports, technical notes and calculations for HV, MV & LV networks.
• Assist in the preparation of preparation of Contract Documents including Specifications and Bills of Quantities for Tender purposes.
• Assist in the preparation of drawings of high quality in Micro station for the infrastructure disciplines.
• Coordinate with the design team to ensure timely delivery of design tasks.
• Lead in the implementation of innovative design solutions using the latest industry standards considering quality, safety and sustainability as a minimum.
• Supervise subordinates, providing guidance and mentorship, as necessary.
• Liaise with the Commercial teams on commercial issues as necessary.
• Report on progress to the Project Manager and Design Manager as necessary.
• Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Requirements

Experience and Qualification:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years overall electrical engineering design experience.
• Candidate must be able to demonstrate a solid understanding of electrical building services design principles as applied to industrial and process facilities. Experience should include preparation of designs for municipal, industrial or petrochemical projects.
• Conversant in the use of engineering software packages covering single line diagrams, load schedules, small power and lighting layouts, fire detection, ELV systems and electrical equipment selection . luminaries, circuit breakers and cables.
• Has experience in designing safety and protective earthling systems and lightning protection.
• Has thorough knowledge of relevant local and international standards and codes of practice with particular reference to NEMA, NEC, EN and IEC standards.
• Understanding of quality and safety aspects of the design development process
