The UK Border Agency, British Embassy Abu Dhabi has a number of vacancies for Entry Clearance Managers (locally employed).

This post is being offered as a fixed term contract for 1 year.

The Role

To play a key operational management role in the UK Border Agency providing high quality, efficient and non-discriminatory visa processing which meets published standards and provides all applicants with a firm, fast and fair service.

Duties and Responsibilities

• To manage resources and organise procedures to ensure that applications, appeals, correspondence and case reviews are conducted to ensure a high standard of decision making, reflecting a balanced view of risk, and within published target times.
• To motivate and support the visa section team through effective line management, by providing practical guidance and clear goals and ensuring regular constructive dialogue and open communication.
• To promote and uphold high professional standards, endorsed by personal example, and encourage individual responsibility for maintaining the overall professionalism and integrity of the Visa Section.
• To ensure that all management control checks are carried out within the guidelines prescribed by Best Practice.
• To manage resources proactively to ensure an effective response to changing demands and priorities, including by active change management.
• To take part in the Embassy emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

Requirements

Key Competencies and Selection Criteria

• Problem Solving and Judgement - the ability to make well judged decisions.
• Delivery of Results – show determination in tackling difficult and complex tasks.
• Managing & Developing Staff – Motivate, provide support, manage talent and effectively line manage band 14 staff and other resources.
• Communicating and Influencing – display the ability to explain complex issues, create solutions whilst listening and maintaining an open view to others.
• Managing External Relationships – Identify and work with external customers / stakeholders to work with and agree standards of service, whilst effectively managing expectations.

Candidates must have current UKBA Entry Clearance Officer experience. The ideal candidate will be:

• A good communicator with excellent spoken and written English
• Computer literate with good experience of Microsoft Office applications
• Numerate and able to record and report data accurately
• Able to work quickly and reliably, unsupervised if necessary, with an eye for detail.
• Good organisational and planning skills
• Excellent team player;
• Adaptable and flexible with a positive attitude to change.
• Willing to travel to all UKBA posts in the Gulf, Iran and Pakistan region.

Application Requirements

• Applicants must have passed the UKBA ECO training course in the last 3 years
• Applicants should also have or will need to be cleared to an appropriate level of UK security clearance and be able to obtain a valid UAE police clearance certificate.
• Applications are invited from eligible candidates who complete the attached core competency form enclosing evidence of criteria.
• If selected for interview the candidates will be required to sit a written assessment as part of the job selection process.
• Attend and pass the UKBA Entry Clearance Managers course in the UK before the employment contract is finalised.
• If selected be able to start on the stipulated start date, projected to be Autumn 2012 and be legally present in the UAE.

Working Hours and Remuneration

Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Standard working hours are from 07.30am until 2.30pm on Sunday to Thursday. However, there may be a requirement for working on Saturday with a compensatory day off during the week. There will also be a requirement for working a late shift, which is currently 12pm to 7pm, for one week in every 8.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: salary of AED 17,742 per month, inclusive of all allowances, Band 16; performance bonus; five weeks’ vacation per annum; medical insurance; free, on-site parking (subject to availability); and free access to on-site swimming pool, gymnasium and sports facilities.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo security vetting procedures.
