Employment: Full Time

THIS POSITION IS FOR A TERM OF TWO YEARS.

To provide high quality, efficient and non-discriminatory visa application processing which meets published standards and to provide all applicants with a firm, fast and fair service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• To assess and resolve visa applications within agreed benchmarks. You must be able to analyse information and reach a decision quickly and be able to justify this decision both orally and in writing. Visa Officers are expected to meet challenging daily workload targets.

• To ensure that all correspondence is considered and reports or replies prepared within targets, in clear and concise language.

• To deal professionally with all callers, whether on telephone or in person, to the Visa Section, ensuring that people are treated fairly and responding sensitively to differences.

• Liaise with the Visa Application Centre, Travel Agents, Schools, Colleges and other internal / external stakeholders.

• Line management of support staff, Entry Clearance Assistants.

• Take part in Embassy emergency planning and response to a crisis.

Requirements

Previous UK Immigration experience would be an advantage for this operational decision making role but it is not essential, however the ideal candidate should possess the following skills;

• Excellent spoken and written English, please submit with your application either an IELTS certificate at a minimum of level 6.5 or an equivalent qualification, or evidence of secondary/higher education in the medium of English.
• Computer literate with accurate typing skills of at least 25 words per minute. Please provide evidence of typing skills of at least 25 words per minute (i.e. the Pitman elementary level typing speed). You can check your typing speed by entering the words ‘typing test’ into a search engine such as Google and selecting one of the providers of free typing speed tests. You must print out your result as evidence of your competence and bring it with you to the interview.
• Able to work quickly and reliably with little supervision and meet challenging targets on a daily basis.
• Capable of making quick decisions in accordance with set rules and able to show that these decisions are fair and just on all occasions.
• Possess the ability to work well under pressure.
• Work effectively in a team environment.

Application requirements

• Applications are invited from eligible candidates who complete the core competency form enclosing evidence of criteria.
• Applicants should have or will need to be cleared to an appropriate level of UK security clearance and be able to obtain a valid UAE police clearance certificate.
• If selected for interview, candidates will be required to sit a written assessment as part of the selection process.
• If selected to be able to start on the stipulated start date is the Autumn of 2012 and be legally present in the UAE.
• Attend and pass the Entry Clearance Officers course in the UK before the employment contract is finalised.

Working Hours and Remuneration

Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Standard working hours are from 07.30am until 2.30pm on Sunday to Thursday. However, there may be a requirement for working on Saturday with a compensatory day off during the week. There will also be a requirement for working a late shift, which is currently 12pm to 7pm, for one week in every 8.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: salary of AED 11,360 per month, inclusive of all allowances, Band 14; performance bonus; five weeks’ vacation per annum; medical insurance; free, on-site parking (subject to availability); and free access to on-site swimming pool, gymnasium and sports facilities.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo security vetting procedures.

Potential candidates for the position will be invited to take a short written test. Those who pass the written test will be invited back for an interview.
