Job Description:

Environmental Coordinator responsible, as PWA representative, for the environmental management functions for delivery of QAR 10 billion portfolio of education, medical, marine and general building projects for Government clients. A key function is to manage Environmental compliance by the Programme Management Consultant (PMC).

Responsibilities:

Establish plans for Environmental Management; and monitor implementation and compliance by the supply chain.

Work collaboratively with consultants and contractors to ensure portfolio delivery within Environmental objectives. In particular, ensure that PWA required Environmental reviews and approvals are scheduled and actioned.

Management of Environmental risk across the portfolio, and preparation of regular reports and briefing papers on the status of the risk, mitigation actions and risk reduction initiatives.

Preparation of the master environmental audit schedule, audit implementation and management of follow up for corrective actions.

Measurement of environmental management performance of the PMC, consultants and contractors, and incorporation into a feedback process to ensure continuous improvement to meet PWA needs.

Identification and coordination of interfaces with internal and external stakeholders to ensure necessary support to enable delivery of the projects, with particular emphasis on the Environment Agency.

Monitor implementation of PMCs’ Environmental management and administration processes.
Prepare monthly Environmental Status Report - content to include:
Environmental performance (statistical) summary
Audit Status
Summary of Environmental meetings
Urgent corrective actions

Requirements

Mandatory Requirements:
•University degree from a recognised university in an appropriate field such as: environmental science or engineering. Degrees in other relevant fields will also be considered.
•Driver's License.
•Proficient in English, written and spoken.

Desirable requirements:
•Formal QA Training and Auditor certification.

Experience & Knowledge
•A minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing the environmental management aspects of the design and construction of major new building programmes.
•Experience in the management implementation and compliance to ISO 14001, preferably from the client side.
•Experience in the assessment of consultants and contractors environmental management plans; and auditing for compliance on major building projects.
•Have good knowledge and experience of international and environmental standards related to building projects.
•Have a working knowledge of Environmental Assessment methods (e.g. BREEAM or LEED or QSAS) and the planning and implementation of sustainable design and construction practices.
•Experience of working in Qatar or the Gulf region is desirable.
