Executives stressed by high rents

UAE, 24 Mar 2005

FACED with rising house rents, more than half the senior executive in the UAE are planning to ask for a pay hike or switch to another employer, a survey by online recruitment agency GulfTalent has shown.

The survey found that while rents had risen by 26 per cent over last year, salaries, on average, rose by just 1.5 per cent.

When asked how they intended to tackle the situation, 35 per cent of people surveyed said they planned to switch employers or ask for a pay rise. That figure rises to 55 per cent in the case of senior executives. Although the possibility of being banned was a concerned, many said they were still willing to take a chance.
