Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Position Summary
The candidate must have significant experience in all aspects in the of Installation, Testing and Maintenance of Fibre Optic technologies, both Single-mode and Multimode. In addition the candidate will also be required to assist with the training and development of the On-Site Maintenance Teams technical skills and to also provide a technical a support function to Local Maintenance Facility Support Centre.

Responsibilities
• To oversee and manage any Fibre Optic Work being undertaken by Subcontractors
• To perform termination, splicing and testing of fibre optic cables, to perform any pre or post installation tests using OTDR and Light Source and Power Meter and to diagnose and rectify any problems on Fibre Optic cables installed
• To troubleshoot any emergency situations and provide a solution and carried repairs if required
• To document all test results obtained and ensure all tests have been completed as documented in the agreed SOW
• To develop and maintain internal working practices documentation
• Act as technical advisor and resolve unexpected technical problems that may arise
• Ensure that all the materials used are according to the specifications
• Oversee quality control for installation and maintenance works
• Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations
• Proactively manage changes and identify potential crises, and recommend devise contingency plans
• Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management
• To monitor and observe that Health & Safety is adhered to at all times and to report any infringements immediately via the correct reporting channels

Requirements

Education / Certification Requirements:
• City and Guilds, in Single and Multi-Mode Fibre Installation Testing
• BICSI ICT Installer (Fibre Optic)
• CFOT, CFOSH or AFOT with the FOA

Skills and Experience
• 5-7 years’ experience in all aspects of fibre optic architecture and infrastructure design
• Proven experience with working / handling dynamic environments
• Good knowledge of fibre optic working practices and their applications
• Experienced with installation procedures and trouble shooting
• Experience in the Telecommunications, Gas/Oil and Homeland Security/Defense market
• Capable of working independently and having responsibility as an individual
• Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Knowledge of the Structured Cabling System and its application in the data communications environment
• Ability to test installed Cat.6, Cat.6A & multi pair using fluke tester
• Driving license
