Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Reporting to the Head of Investment Strategy, the Fixed Income Strategist will concur in the development of the Banks investment house view. He will be specifically responsible for inferring from that house view the implications for global bond sectors and markets. Accordingly he will identify our preferred bond plays and rank global bond sectors and markets. As such he will be an active participant in the research process and contribute to the bank wide dissemination of equity investment views to all relevant stakeholders.

Job Dimensions:
- Issuing accurate and frequent research recommendations

- Meeting key stakeholders (Investment managers/RMs/Clients/Press)
- Ad hoc mentoring/training of relationship managers
- Being constantly on call to address RM/Clients questions/queries
- Actively contributing to the research process and working towards common team goals

Key Results Areas:
- Successful development, implementation and maintenance of the overall bond strategy within the context of the ADCB house view and tactical asset allocation
- Issuing of high quality, articulate and accurate research views
- Revenue generation

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Analysis of global fixed income markets, with particular focus on emerging market sovereign corporates and sovereigns, hard- and local currency paper
- Infer implications of global macro-economic view for specific emerging bond markets based on factors, such as:
- country government and overall debt/gdp ratios
- reserve debt coverage ratios, import coverage ratios, trade balances, terms of trade, real exchange rate, and fiscal balances as indicators for debts sustainability of key emerging markets
- company debt coverage ratio and other solvency, as well as company liquidity, analysis
- (relative) valuations in terms of yields to maturity to solvency and liquidity ratios
- key emerging markets currency and interest rate movements, and general credit and monetary conditions
- geopolitical developments
- Rank markets and identify preferred emerging bond sectors and markets within the context of a frequent general review of data, and together with other members of the investment team (head investment strategy, economist, equity strategist)
- Contribute to quarterly and weekly publications, write ad hoc strategy notes
- Make regular presentations for investment advisors, portfolio managers, relationship managers and clients, both at an individual level and for larger audiences, also upon ad hoc and unplanned requests
- Interact with the press on area of competence, ensuring that ADCB has at all times an opinion on most of the hot themes affecting global emerging bond markets

Requirements

- Bachelors in a related quantitative subject such as finance, economics or similar from a reputable institution.
- Professional qualification, CFA or CAIA preferred.
- 5-15 years of experience in investment management with a solid quantitative skill set and a strong knowledge of capital markets. In principle that experience, skill set and knowledge would have matured in emerging bond markets, but the candidate might also have a cross-asset allocation background, or be an economist, or distressed debt professional.

Special Skills / Attributes required for the Job:
- Strong knowledge and deep understanding of bond markets and analysis
- Very good understanding of the main drivers of (relative) performance across different bond sectors and markets
- Ability to deliver clear, meaningful and well-structured information and complex messages convincingly and concisely, in both oral and written form
- Creativity / flexibility to adapt approach and solutions independently in complex environments with a highly challenging client group
- Excellent people skills, high-impact and confident presence with strong sales skills
- Client-focused, results-oriented team player with highest standards of ethical and professional behaviour
- Expert knowledge of written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of Arabic Language is preferred
- Energetic, forward looking, positive and flexible
